CALL TO ORDER Chair Dobler called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. 1.A ROLL CALL Present: 9 - Chair Frederick Dobler, Commissioner Frederick Dobler, Chair Jim Burlingame, Vice Chair Jim Burlingame, Commissioner Rose Clifthorne, Commissioner Kathryn Dorgan, Commissioner Stacy Hicks, Commissioner Kathy Murray and Commissioner Joe Batt Absent: 2 - Commissioner Jace Hoag and Commissioner Shameka Gagnier 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA The agenda was approved. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 21-1168 Approval of November 11, 2021 Arts Commission Meeting Minutes The minutes were approved. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT - None 5. ANNOUNCEMENTS Commissioners commented on past and upcoming art events. 6. BUSINESS ITEMS 21-1173 Discussion of 2022 Arts Commission Work Plan and Municipal Art Plan Items Commissioners continued to refine the 2022 Work Plan. The discussion was completed. City of Olympia Page 1 Arts Commission Meeting Minutes December 9, 2021 21-1171 Pacific and Martin Way Art Crossing Application Review Commissioners reviewed the Art Crossing application and recommended Commissioner Murray for the Arts Commission slot on the jury panel. The recommendation was recommended for approval. 21-1172 Artist in Residence Program Discussion Ms. Johnson shared a flyer for program recruitment. Following discussion, Commissioners asked that it be sent to Commissioners Dorgan and Murray for wordsmithing. The discussion was completed. 21-1179 Review of Grants to Arts and Culture Organization (GACO) Process Commissioners reviewed a recommendation process for the grants to Arts and Culture organizations and discussed changes for the following year including excel spreadsheets instead of writeable pdfs, refining application materials at the February meeting and a review session at the August meeting. Commissioners reviewed the December 14 Council presentation to recommend the five new grant awards. The discussion was completed. 7. REPORTS 21-1169 Committee Report There was no report. 21-1170 Staff Report Ms. Johnson reported Poet Laureate Ashly McBunch will be working with the City's Re-Imagining Public Safety efforts in the spring. She reported updates on public art elements in the Franklin Street and Yelm Highway projects. The report was received. 8. OTHER TOPICS - None 9.
