Vice-Chair Dorgan called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m.

22-0463 Get to Know Olympia Lamplighters
Iri Alexander and Avalon Kragness provided Commissioners an overview of Olympia
Lamplighters. Their goal as a non-profit is to break down barriers between artists, and
help artists have stepping stones to access the arts. Their arts education, all-age
performance spaces, audio production access and weeknight events build community.
They opened six months before the pandemic in their space on 4th Avenue in downtown

Olympia. While primarily a membership based program, they keep every Tuesday night
open for free, themed drawing classes. They are looking for volunteers, teachers,
donations and sponsorships to keep the doors open and reduce barriers to participation.

22-0462 Recommendation of Martin Way/Pacific Avenue Art Crossing Public
Artist
Ms. Johnson shared the recommendation of the jury committee for the Martin Way/Pacific
Avenue Art Crossing Project artist: the team of Jennifer Corio and Dave Frei. She
reviewed selection criteria, provided juror comments regarding their recommendation,
and shared the cover letter provided by the team.
Commissioner Vergotis moved, seconded by Commissioner Clifthorne, to
forward the artist team of Jennifer Corio and Dave Frei to City Council for the
Martin Way/Pacific Avenue Art Crossing Public Art Project to City Council for
consideration. The motion passed.
22-0461 Arts Commission Spring Retreat Planning
Commissioners reviewed a draft agenda and supplemental materials for the June Arts
Commission retreat, and finalized details.
The discussion was completed.

Ms. Johnson shared project updates including:
- Inspire Olympia approved by Olympia voters; Marygrace Goddu, ARCH Coordinator,
leading the effort to develop the program
- Communication with Catholic Community Services regarding the Artist in Residence
project
- Update on traffic box wrap locations
- Notice about upcoming repair to the lower Harrison roundabout light wall, part of the
public art project "From the Laws of Man to the Laws of Nature," by Ellen Sollod
- Jessica Strauss Tomy will start work as an emergency part time employee with arts
starting May 16
- Arts Program Specialist Angel Nava featured in an article about the Armory on the front
page of The Olympian
- Call for volunteers for the local history celebration sponsored by the Heritage
Commission on May 25
