CALL TO ORDER Chair Burlingame called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. 1.A ROLL CALL Present: 6 - Chair Jim Burlingame, Vice Chair Kathryn Dorgan, Commissioner Joe Batt, Commissioner Rose Clifthorne, Commissioner Jace Hoag and Commissioner Hathor Vergotis Absent: 2 - Commissioner Kathy Murray and Commissioner Christie Tran 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA The agenda was approved. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 22-1131 Approval of November 10, 2022 Arts Commission Meeting Minutes The minutes were approved. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT Lorilyn Lirio noted they were from the Jolt News. 5. ANNOUNCEMENTS Commissioners shared information about past and upcoming arts events. 6. BUSINESS ITEMS 22-1135 Martin Way & Pacific Avenue Art Crossing Public Art Concept Plan Project artists Jennifer Corio and Dave Frei presented changes to the concept plan, titled "Crossroads of Connection: Roots and Fruits." Ms. Johnson noted she shared the updated concept plan with Risen Faith Fellowship, Lien Hoa Temple and the Eastside City of Olympia Page 1 Arts Commission Meeting Minutes December 8, 2022 Neighborhood Association, to positive response. Vice Chair Dorgan moved, seconded by Commissioner Batt, to recommend the Concept Plan to City Council for approval. The motion passed unanimously. 22-1132 Approval of 2023 Arts Walk Cover Artists Ms. Nava shared the jury recommendation for the 2023 Arts Walk cover artists: Aimee Schreiber for spring, Jennifer Kuhns for fall, with Emily R. Lee and Collette Mason as first and second alternate. Commissioner Vergotis moved, seconded by Commissioner Hoag, to approve the jury recommendation for staff to move forward in contracting the artists to create the cover artwork. The motion passed unanimously. 22-1133 OAC Leadership Positions for 2023 Chair Burlingame and Vice-Chair Dorgan volunteered to serve another year in their respective positions. Commissioner Hoag moved, seconded by Commissioner Batt, to elect Chair Burlinghame and Vice-Chair Dorgan ti continue in their current leadership positions. The motion passed unanimously. 22-1134 2023 Arts Commission Work Plan and Municipal Art Plan Ms. Johnson shared a proposal for the 2023 Municipal Art Fund budget. Commissioners agreed to the proposed changes. Ms. Johnson will update the Municipal Art Plan and return the draft to the Arts Commission in January, along with an updated Work Plan. The discussion was completed. 7. REPORTS Ms. Johnson shared the 2023 Grants to Arts and Culture Organizations presentation made to City Council, and Chair Burlingame noted Council comments and support of the program. Ms. Johnson also shared the Traffic Box Wrap application and changes made to the form to capture applicant demographics. She also asked for an Arts Commission representative for the upcoming Call for Poet Laureate and recommendations for other jury members. 8. OTHER TOPICS - None 9.
