CALL TO ORDER Chair Burlingame called the meeting to order at 6:06 p.m. 1.A ROLL CALL Present: 5 - Chair Jim Burlingame, Vice Chair Kathryn Dorgan, Commissioner Joe Batt, Commissioner Jace Hoag and Commissioner Kathy Murray Absent: 3 - Commissioner Rose Clifthorne, Commissioner Christie Tran and Commissioner Hathor Vergotis 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Ms. Johnson asked to remove item 23-0028 as Commissioners Tran and Vergotis were not in attendance. The agenda was approved as amended, removing item 23-0028. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 23-0024 Approval of December 8, 2022 Arts Commission Meeting Minutes The minutes were approved. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT 5. ANNOUNCEMENTS Commissioners shared information about past and upcoming art events. Ms. Johnson reminded Commissioners to check their emails for information on required trainings and stipends. 6. BUSINESS ITEMS 23-0033 Review of 2023 Arts Walk Cover Sketches City of Olympia Page 1 Arts Commission Meeting Minutes January 12, 2023 Arts Program Specialist Angel Nava shared concept plan sketches for 2023 Arts Walk covers, provided by artists Aimee Schreiber and Jennifer Kuhns. Commissioners appreciated the direction of the cover images and looked forward to seeing the final artwork. Information only. No action requested. 23-0026 Arts Commission Candidate Screening and Recommendation Commissioners discussed applications received and reviewed. Review sheets had been sent in advance to Ms. Johnson who shared the final tally. Commissioner Hoag moved, seconded by Commissioner Batt, to forward the ranked list to the Community Livability and Public Safety Committee. The motion passed unanimously. 23-0025 2023-2024 Arts Commission Work Plan and Municipal Art Plan Commissioners reviewed the draft 2023 Work Plan and Municipal Art Plan and proposed staff edits. Commissioners will review the final documents at the February meeting. The discussion was completed. 23-0028 Review proposed Arts Commission Mission Statement The recommendation was closed with no discussion or action. 23-0030 Review of Traffic Box Wrap image proposals Ms. Johnson shared the 71 images submitted for the 2023 Traffic Box Wraps Program.She noted not all were in the proper format and said she had a few emails out for response. She also identified an image she had a question about concerning the location where the photo was taken. Commissioners appreciated the range of images submitted and had no other technical or policy questions. Commissioner Batt moved, seconded by Vice-Chair Dorgan, to generally approve the submitted images for public vote, directing staff to follow up with identified technical and policy issues identified. The motion was unanimously approved. 7. REPORTS - None 7.a COMMITTEE REPORT - None 7.b STAFF REPORT - None 8.
