ROLL CALL Present: 7 - Mayor Stephen H. Buxbaum, Mayor Pro Tem Nathaniel Jones, Councilmember Jim Cooper, Councilmember Julie Hankins, Councilmember Steve Langer, Councilmember Jeannine Roe and Councilmember Cheryl Selby 2. BUSINESS ITEMS 2.A 14-1175 Meeting with State Legislators Mayor Buxbaum opened the meeting and thanked the 22nd District Legislators for taking some time to meet with the Council. He commented that we value our relationship and the Council feels we have the best representation in our District. Mayor Buxbaum outlined our 2015 Legislative Agenda, with our top priority need being funding for local services and infrastructure to include: · Maintaining and restoring shared revenue and transportation/infrastructure funding (sharing marijuana revenues, restoring local share of liquor revenue and motor vehicle excise tax, and removing the 1% lid on property taxes). · Authorizing local revenue options, such as giving cities the authority to raise the Transportation Benefit District fee from $20 to $40 by vote of the legislative body. · Providing capital budget funding for State infrastructure in Olympia, specifically the 1063 Building. · Providing funding for mental health, substance abuse, prevention, intervention, treatment, and after care services, with an emphasis on youth prevention programs. Mayor Buxbaum also noted some other areas of interest to the City that align with priorities put forward by the Association of Washington Cities. Additional discussion topics included: · Sending welcome packets to all legislators at the beginning of the Session that includes information on parking, Intercity Transit schedules, the DASH shuttle, City of Olympia Page 1 City Council Meeting Minutes December 2, 2014 and contact information for key City staff. · Work by the Local Government Champions Caucus focused on new revenue sources for local government. · Need for the City to be present at Hearings on key legislative topics and testify where possible.
