ROLL CALL Present: 6 - Mayor Stephen H. Buxbaum, Mayor Pro Tem Nathaniel Jones, Councilmember Jim Cooper, Councilmember Julie Hankins, Councilmember Steve Langer and Councilmember Jeannine Roe Excused: 1 - Councilmember Cheryl Selby PLANNING COMMISSIONERS PRESENT Chair Max Brown, Vice Chair Kim Andresen, Commissioner Jessica Bateman, Commissioner Roger Horn, Commissioner Missy Watts, Commissioner Darrell Hoppe, Commissioner Jerome Parker, and Commissioner Carole Richmond. Commissioner Judy Bardin was excused. 2. BUSINESS ITEM 2.A 14-1191 Joint Meeting with the Planning Commission - Recognition and Discussion of Future Work Plan Planning Commission Chair Max Brown opened the meeting and thanked the Council for meeting with them. Mayor Buxbaum provided opening remarks thanking the Olympia Planning Commission (OPC) for the work they do and noting its importance to the Council. He stated the intent of tonight’s meeting is to discuss the upcoming OPC work plan and other issues/items of interest. Key items discussed included: · Importance of Action Plan (particularly, OPC should consider remaining actions from ’94 Plan). · Continued progress and development of performance measures to track progress of moving the Comprehensive Plan goals forward. · OPC is still lacking clear direction from Council regarding scope of OPC’s role for each item assigned to them. · Small items should be minimized so OPC can focus on big issues (Action Plan, Downtown Plan, etc.) · Need clarity of relationship between CRA and Downtown Plan update, as well City of Olympia Page 1 City Council Meeting Minutes December 1, 2014 as the reason for inclusion of the CRA in the Comprehensive Plan. · Critical Areas ordinance update and Capitol Campus Master Plan are high priorities. · Prior Downtown Plan wasn’t implemented, new one should be (may mean less vision, more strategy).
