2.A 21-1101 Cultural Access Program Briefing
Historic Preservation Officer Marygrace Goddu gave an overview of cultural access
programming, it's intent and goals, as well as the 2015 legislation that allows revenue
from a voter-approved sales or property tax increase to be used to strengthen access to
cultural organizations and their public programming for up to seven years. She shared
how funds can be used by cultural organizations, what cultural access looks like and
programming for youth and schools.
Ms. Goddu shared the timeline for the cultural access project to include community and
stakeholder outreach and education, culminating with the item going to the ballot on April
26, 2022. She also gave an overview of information and data that has been collected
during public outreach.
Ms. Goddu shared the concept of an Art Break and introduced local ethnomusicologist
Javeon Byrd and his Executive Assistant Brianne Hall who shared a story and song
regarding African drumming.
Councilmembers discussed the topic and asked clarifying questions.
The study session was completed.
