CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m. 1.A ROLL CALL Chair Villegas Bremer was present by phone. Present: 3 - Chair Linda Villegas Bremer, Commissioner Reiko Callner, and Commissioner Oscar Soule STAFF PRESENT Amy Cleveland, Chief Examiner/Secretary Tami Micheau, Human Resources Greg Wright, Deputy Fire Chief Rob Bradley, Assistant Fire Chief 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 2.A 13-1065 Approval of November 15, 2013 Civil Service Commission Meeting Minutes Chair Villegas Bremer noted she came late to the November meeting so Commissioner Callner was Chair designate. Chair Villegas Bremer directed staff to modify the minutes and bring them back to the January meeting for approval. 3. BUSINESS ITEMS 3.A 13-1066 Approval of Fire Inspector/Firefighter Promotional Register Ms. Cleveland reported that two candidates both passed the process for the fire inspector position and are ranked on the register for approval. Commissioner Callner moved, seconded by Chair Villegas Bremer, to approve and certify the register. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 3 - Chair Villegas Bremer, Commissioner Callner and Commissioner Soule City of Olympia Page 1 Civil Service Commission Meeting Minutes December 17, 2013 3.B 13-1067 Firefighter/Paramedic- Testing Process Ms. Cleveland reported there has been no paramedic recruitment outside of the fire department since 2003. Mr. Wright reported paramedic staffing levels have been affected by the recent promotions and retirements within the fire department . Amy asked for an entry level list, as well as an advanced entry list of candidates. Advanced entry level candidates must be a current Thurston County paramedic . CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) certification is required. Commissioner Callner moved, seconded by Chair Villegas Bremer, to approve the requirements. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 3 - Chair Villegas Bremer, Commissioner Callner and Commissioner Soule 3.C 13-1068 Approval of Advanced Entry Police Officer Register Ms. Cleveland reported that the Advanced Entry Police Officer is a continuous process, we received 14 applications and ended up with one advanced candidate on the register. Commissioner Callner moved, seconded by Chair Villegas Bremer, to approve the register. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 3 - Chair Villegas Bremer, Commissioner Callner and Commissioner Soule 3.D 14-0002 Approval of Academy Graduate Police Officer Register Ms. Cleveland reported one academy candidate graduated and passed all phases. Commissioner Callner moved, seconded by Chair Villegas Bremer, to approve the register. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 3 - Chair Villegas Bremer, Commissioner Callner and Commissioner Soule 4. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 9:04 a.m. City of Olympia Page 2
