1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Payne called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. He noted the General Government
Committee combined with the Ad Hoc Public Safety Committee to create the Community
Livability and Public Safety Committee.
Chair Payne discussed the significance of the Committee and the work they will be
taking on that is of importance to the community. He noted the Committee has a robust
and ambitious work plan, and he looks forward to working with everyone. He also
acknowledged the significance of having two members of color sitting on the Committee,
noting they will be doing a lot of work, specifically around public safety and race relations.
Chair Payne expressed pride in Olympia and honor in chairing the Committee at this
particular time in this community's history.

Excused: 1 - Committee member Cheryl Selby

The agenda was approved.

6.A 22-0102 Approval of the 2022 Community Livability and Public Safety Committee
Work Plan
Assistant City Manager Debbie Sullivan presented a draft 2022 work plan for the
Committee. Committee members discussed the work plan items and proposed changes
and additions.
Committee member Huỳnh moved, seconded by Chair Payne, to forward a

Safety Committee
recommendation to the full Council for approval of the 2022 Work plan as
discussed, acknowledging it is a fluid document. The motion carried by the
following vote:
Aye: 2 - Chair Payne and Committee member Huỳnh
Excused: 1 - Committee member Selby
6.B 22-0095 Update on Advisory Committee Recruitment Process
Strategic Communications Director Kellie Purce Braseth gave an update on the advisory
committee recruitment process. The Committee discussed potentially adding another
day of interviewing advisory committee applicants for the Social Justice and Equity
Commission to accommodate interviewing applicants for the 11 positions, of which we
received 39 applications.
Committee members asked clarifying questions.
The information was provided.
6.C 22-0096 Update on Stipends for Council-Appointed Boards, Committees, and
Commissions
Ms. Purce Braseth gave history and provided an update regarding stipends for advisory
boards, commissions and committees.

7. REPORTS AND UPDATES
Chair Payne thanked everyone for their work for this first Community Livability and Public
Safety Committee meeting.
