Chair Payne called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.

5.A 22-0610 Approval of May 26, 2022 Community Livability and Public Safety
Committee Minutes
The minutes were approved.
6. COMMITTEE BUSINESS
6.A 22-0597 Olympia Downtown Alliance Downtown Projects Update
Strategic Projects Manager Amy Buckler gave an overview of the work of the Olympia
Downtown Alliance (ODA) and their partnership with the City for economic recovery from
the COVID-19 pandemic.
ODA Executive Director Todd Cutts and Downtown Project Manager Desiree Freeland
gave an update on the projects they working on related to the economic recovery,
Downtown Creative District Development and Implementation; Downtown Business
Recruitment & Retention Strategy; Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design;
Re-Opening Campaign and Placemaking Initiatives.
Committee members asked clarifying questions.

Safety Committee
The report was received.
6.B 22-0603 Briefing on Body Worn Camera and In-Car Video System Community
Feedback
Police Chief Rich Allen gave a briefing on community feedback received regarding
body-worn cameras and in-car video systems.
Axon Enterprises Representatives Brandon Hawes and Michele McDonald gave a
demonstration of body-worn cameras.
Committee members asked clarifying questions.
The discussion was completed.
6.C 22-0614 Discussion on Addressing Vacancies on the Police Use of Force Event
Board
Strategic Communications Director Kellie Purce Braseth discussed approaches to filling
current vacancies on the Police Use of Force Event Board.
Committee members discussed the issue and decided to address the vacancies by
reviewing demographic concerns and reviewing the list of community members who were
previously interviewed and a list of 12 not interviewed. The Committee will discuss
potential appointments at the August Community Livability and Public Safety Committee
meeting.
The discussion was completed.
6.D 22-0613 Update on Advisory Board Recruitment Process
Strategic Communications Director Kellie Purce Braseth provided an update on the
2023 Advisory Board recruitment.
Committee members asked clarifying questions.
The information was provided.
7. REPORTS AND UPDATES
Assistant City Manager Debbie Sullivan gave an update on Reimagining Public Safety.
