Chair Parshley called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.

5.A 22-0867 Approval of August 18, 2022 Finance Committee Meeting Minutes
The minutes were approved.
6. COMMITTEE BUSINESS
6.A 22-0569 Financial Management, Human Resource and Payroll Software Project
Briefing
Project Manager Danelle MacEwen reported the Workday Olympia project is on time and
still on budget. The City is planning to go live with the new system mid-December.
The report was received.
6.B 22-0848 Economic Development/ Olympia Strong Update
Strategic Projects Manager Amy Buckler and Economic Development Intern Shawnna
Gan-Mershon explained the Olympia Strong initiative is a process to form a strategy for
how the City and partners can best support economic resiliency of residents, businesses,
the community and the City. They reported there were about 500 respondents to an
online survey and some in-person interviews with community members. They learned the

most important actions the City can take regarding economic resiliency is to address
affordable housing, homelessness, employment and training. Next steps include holding
public meetings in early 2023.
The report was received.
6.C 22-0853 Technical and Trade Training Center Interlocal Agreement Update
Economic Development Director Mike Reid reported there is interest in a multi-purpose
training center that will serve as an interface between industry and environmental
sustainability. LOTT, the Port of Olympia and the City (conveners) are working toward
making that happen. Conveners recognize their need to invest in the next generation
workforce. They want a center that can foster not just education and trade training
programs, but also workforce development, economic development and environmental
sustainability. Mr. Reid said conveners are planning a retreat to discuss the project later
in October.
The discussion was completed.
7. REPORTS AND UPDATES
Finance Director Aaron BeMiller mentioned the Finance Committee will add two special
meetings to discuss the 2023 budget. The meetings will be October 5 and November 2,
2022 at 5:30 p.m.

The meeting adjourned at 6:59 p.m.
