Heritage Review Committee Meeting
1. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 12:05 p.m.
1.A ROLL CALL
Present: 3 - Chair Holly Davies, Vice Chair Dwayne Harkness, and
Commissioner Rachel Newmann
Excused: 3 - Commissioner Garner Miller, Commissioner Mark Rentfrow, and
Commissioner Nicholas Vann
2. BUSINESS ITEMS
2.A 15-0442 Stephen A. Masini, Side Entrance Alterations, 1701 4th Avenue E,
Presubmission Advice
The Committee reviewed options AA and BB (as submitted) for the proposed new
west elevation covered entry. They noted that both options appeared to meet U.S.
Secretary of the Interior Standards for Rehabilitation. The applicant indicated they
would prefer option BB.
The Heritage Review Committee recommended selecting option BB because
it meets Standards #3, #9, and #10 in departing from the original but being
compatible and reversible.
2.B 15-0443 Department of Fish & Wildlife, Siding Repair, Georgia-Pacific Plywood
Company Office, 600 Capitol Way N, Presubmission Advice
The Committee reviewed the proposal submitted by the applicant as "Capway Siding
Modification/Restoration. South Side, (B Street) S.E. Wing" on March 23, 2015.
The Committee made the following recommendations as per U.S. Secretary
of the Interior Standards for Rehabilitation #2 and #6:
- Select Option 2 to restore historical integrity of the property;
- Clear cedar battens should be of the same size and profile of the original
battens;
- Consider whether reuse of the recently applied Hardie Panels will be the
most long-lived and cost-effective solution when compared to using new
Hardie Panels cut to the appropriate size.
