1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Davies called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
The presentation on the National Register Nomination of the Richard & Lydia
Stoecker House moved to 6A.
The agenda was approved as amended.

6.A 15-0898 Recommendation of Approval or Denial of Special Valuation for 301
Maple Park Ave SE
Ms. Sadlier gave an overview of Special Valuation requirements and the rehabilitation
work completed at the property.
Commissioner Newmann moved, seconded by Commissioner Miller, to
recommend approval of the property tax valuation application and all
qualified rehabilitation expenditures as submitted for 301 Maple Park Ave
SE. The motion passed unanimously.
6.B 15-0896 OHC Evaluation of National Register Nomination for the Richard &
Lydia Stoecker House
Ms. Sadlier reviewed the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) Evaluation
Criterion.
Mr. Bergman gave a presentation detailing the materials and features of the Richard
& Lydia Stoecker house.
Discussion:
- Because there have been few changes to the home; it has high integrity.
Commissioner McLain moved, seconded by Vice Chair Harkness, to
recommend the Richard & Lydia Stoecker House of 1701 4th Avenue E,
Olympia be listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The motion
passed unanimously.
6.C 15-0895 New Olympia Heritage Commission Email Accounts
Ms. Sadlier discussed why City of Olympia citizen advisory boards are being issued
City email accounts for all committee-related communication. She explained the
process for accessing email accounts, gave a demonstration, and described the
requirements and parameters for use of the accounts.
The discussion was completed.
7. REPORTS
7.A Downtown Committee
Commissioner Newmann discussed the Open House forum for the Downtown
Strategy consultant finalists.
Ms. Sadlier shared a conversation with the consultant about the importance of historic
preservation.
Commissioners McLain and Helle discussed completion of the SS T.J. Potter murals.

7.B Heritage Review Committee
Commissioner Rentfrow discussed the review of a permit application for
reconstruction and rehabilitation of 213 18th Ave SW.
Ms. Sadlier distributed a handout entitled Heritage Review Tracking and announced
she will track the status of reviews and update Commissioners at regular meetings.
7.C Outreach Committee
Commissioner Helle discussed the possible origins of the Sylvester Park drinking
fountain.
Ms. Sadlier discussed the timeline for new historic building poster placement at City
Hall.
Commissioners congratulated Commissioner McLain as the selected artist for Arts
Walk material.
7.D Policy & Ordinance Committee
The Commission discussed past ordinance review work. They agreed on the need for
a full compendium of relevant ordinances to review.
Ms. Sadlier reported on her participation in a panel discussion at the Planning
Commission meeting on the design review process. The Commission discussed the
need for more clarity on the Joint Design Review Board composition and review
process to effectively advocate for appropriate development and redevelopment of
designated historic properties.
7.E Survey & Inventory Committee
Ms. Sadlier discussed the status of posting and distributing the completed report on
the mid-century residential survey.

8. OTHER TOPICS
Commissioner Helle announced State Archives Month.
9. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
