CALL TO ORDER Chair Davies called the meeting to order at 12:11 p.m. 1.A ROLL CALL Present: 6 - Chair Holly Davies, Commissioner Jessica Bieber, Commissioner Kenneth House, Commissioner Garner Miller, Commissioner Gary Stedman and Commissioner Sheila Swalling 1.B OTHERS PRESENT City of Olympia Historic Preservation Officer Marygrace Goddu 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA The agenda was approved. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 3.A 20-1029 Approval of October 26, 2020 Heritage Review Committee Meeting Minutes The minutes were approved. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT Shanna Stevenson spoke about the history and significance of the Olympia Armory. Jim Sweeney participated through the “chat” function due to audio glitch and shared his support and the Eastside Neighborhood Association’s support for the building as a community asset. 6. BUSINESS ITEMS City of Olympia Page 1 Heritage Commission Meeting Minutes - Final December 14, 2020 6.A 20-1030 Olympia Heritage Register Listing of the Olympia Armory Commissioner House moved, seconded by Commissioner Stedman, to recommend to the Olympia Heritage Commission that the Olympia Armory located at 515 Eastside Street be added to the Olympia Heritage Register, based on its meeting all of the requirements for listing of OMC 18.12.080, and exemplary eligibility under categories A, B, C, D, and E, and noting the following building elements: The entire exterior of the Armory Building is character-defining and should be preserved or restored. The interiors of the Armory Building include the following character defining features which should be preserved or restored: •The Main Entry Vestibule, including the spatial entry sequence, original tile floor, and wood door casings. •The large volume of space that constitutes the Drill Room, and the Drill Room floor. •The distinctive structural columns of the ground floor. The “Long Barn” or Vehicle Storage Building also on the property is historic and should be retained and rehabilitated but is secondary to the Armory Building. The motion passed unanimously. 8.
