1. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:07 p.m.
Present: 5 - Chair Jim Nieland, Vice Chair Timothy W Burns, Committee member
Robert Dengel, Committee member Candace Jacobs, and
Committee member Brian Tomlinson
Absent: 4 - Committee member Barbara Benson, Committee member Gerry

The agenda was approved.

4. PUBLIC COMMENT
Yes On Parks Steering Committee Member Bonnie Jacobs spoke about Proposition 1
campaign efforts.
PARC Foundation President James Reddick spoke about grant applications to the
Nisqually Tribe, the Puddle Jump on Chehalis Western Trail, 5k walk/run/stroll on
November 7 and Department of DSHS walkathon fundraising to support specialized
recreation.
5. ANNOUNCEMENTS
A. Metropolitan Parks District (MPD) fact sheet was mailed to every household in
Olympia with a registered voter.
B. The draft 2016 Parks, Arts and Recreation Plan will be presented to City Council
on November 17 and PRAC will make recommendation at its December 17 meeting.
6. BUSINESS ITEMS
A. Cammarano Land Donation - PRAC is to make a recommendation to City
Council.
Parks Planning and Design Supervisor Dave Okerlund reviewed the Cammarano

parcel locations and its close proximity to the Olympia Woodland Trail. He indicated
the property is basically undevelopable and is in an area where homeless
encampments have been in the past. The acceptance of this donation would meet
the Park Plan goals for expansion of park land. PRAC recommended that the City
accept the donation.
B. Annual Park Survey Effort - PRAC members to share results.
Mr. Turlove presented the results of the Evergreen Park Survey completed by
Committee member Benson. Park users wanted the glider swing back and a garbage
can placed next to the picnic table. Some users also asked for another picnic table
and playground equipment.
Committee member Dengal reported Sunrise Park users were excited about the new
playground.
7. REPORTS
A. North Capitol Campus Heritage Park Development Assoc. - None
B. PARC Foundation of Thurston County - None.
C. Artesian Leadership Committee
Parks Director Paul Simmons reported the City has been active in partnering with
various organizations, such as downtown businesses, CYS and the Ambassadors.
This summer the park held 19 special events and 184 hours of active programming.
The Bridge program was very popular with their 6 events that included music and DJs.
The park has undergone various design enhancements, such as a new fence,
basketball hoop, permanent tables and chairs, and umbrellas. Mr. Simmons is
working on applying for grants to fund a dedicated park ambassador from
April-October.
