1. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.

The agenda was approved.

3.A 18-0606 Approval of April 19, 2018 Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee
Meeting Minutes
The minutes were approved.
4. PUBLIC COMMENT - None
5. ANNOUNCEMENTS
Parks Maintenance Manager Gary Franks accepted a new position with Public Works
Waste Resources. Parks Ranger Supervisor Sylvana Niehuser will fill the Parks
Maintenance Manager position on a interim basis for the remainder of the year.
6. BUSINESS ITEMS
6.A 18-0609 Pizza with City Manager and Parks, Arts and Recreation Director
Committee members participated in an informal question and answer discussion with
City Manager Steve Hall and Parks Director Paul Simmons.

B 18-0610 Illegal Behaviors in Parks
Interim Parks Maintenance Manager Sylvana Niehuser updated the Committee on
behavior challenges in the parks. Improvements have been made to policies and
procedures, as well as operations, to keep the parks safe and accessible. With the
passage of the Olympia Metropolitan Park District, the Ranger Program has expanded to
include 2 full-time and 3 seasonal part-time Park Rangers.
The report was received.
6.C 18-0607 Parks Planning & Design Work Plans Briefing
Parks Planning & Design Manager Laura Keehan reviewed the 2018/2019 work plans
for the Planning and Engineering sections. The Committee requested a status update of
the work plan in mid-2019.
The report was received.
6.D 18-0608 PRAC Park Evaluations
Park evaluation packets were distributed. Committee members will present survey
findings at the October PRAC meeting.
The information was provided.
