CALL TO ORDER Chair Hicks called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. 1.A ROLL CALL Present: 6 - Chair Stacy Hicks, Vice Chair Timothy Grisham, Commissioner Diana Fairbanks, Commissioner Kathy Murray, Commissioner Katherine Williams and Commissioner Autumn Yoke Absent: 3 - Commissioner Frederick Dobler, Commissioner Marygrace Goddu and Commissioner Katie Nelson OTHERS PRESENT Mayor Cheryl Selby 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA The agenda was approved. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 18-0507 Approval of May 10, 2018 Arts Commission Meeting Minutes The minutes were approved. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT Thresea Yost introduced herself and said she was interested in the work of the Commission. 5. ANNOUNCEMENTS Commissioners shared information about past and upcoming art events. 6. BUSINESS ITEMS 18-0560 Donation of Growing II by Jesse Swickard City of Olympia Page 1 Arts Commission Meeting Minutes June 14, 2018 Commissioners agreed to recommend City Council approve the donation of Growing II, by the artist Jesse Swickard. Vice Chair Grisham moved, seconded by Commissioner Fairbanks, to recommend approval of the donation of Growing II by Jesse Swickard. The motion was approved. 7. REPORTS 18-0508 Policy & Program Recommendation Reports 1.1 Municipal Art Plan to City Council - The status report check in on the Municipal Art Plan will take place with the General Government Committee on Thursday, June 21. Ms. Johnson shared the progress chart with Commissioners. 1.2 Apply for Creative District Designation - No report. 1.3 Commission Retreat/Work Session - No report. 1.4 ArCH - Commissioners are encouraged to attend the City Council Study Session on July 17, 5:30 p.m. 1.5 Proposal for Arts Organizations Granting Program - Commissioners recommended three people for the selection committee. 1.6 Support the Creative Sector - No report. The report was received. 18-0509 Arts Program Support Reports 2.1 Arts Walk 56 & 57 - Ms. Johnson reported fall Arts Walk applications would open the following week. 2.2 Music Out Loud - Ms. Johnson shared the Olympia Downtown Alliance's prioritized list of performances, and Commissioners responded with a recommendation to only support music performances. 2.3 Public Art Assessment - Commissioner Yoke returned her binder. 2.4 Arts & Heritage Day at the Capitol - No report. 2.5 Traffic Box Mural Wrap Public Art Project - No report. 2.6 Percival Plinth Project - Ms. Johnson shared the location recommendation for Joie de Vive at Heritage Park Fountain, which Commissioners approved. She also laid out event details for the Percival Plinth Kick-Off on June 22. Commissioners Murray, Williams and Chair Hicks volunteered to assist at the evening event, and Commissioner Fairbanks offered to assist with the artist lunch. 2.7 Poet Laureate - The Call for Poet Laureate was reviewed at the 5:00 p.m. work session; Commissioners recommended 2 jurors. 2.8 Implementation of Temporary Display of Art at City Hall & Programming - The Call for Curator was reviewed at the 5:00 p.m. work session. 2.9 Olympia Art Crossings - The Call for Artists was reviewed at the 5:00 p.m. work session; Commissioners recommended 1 juror. 2.10 Public Art Retrospective - No report.
