1. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:02 p.m.

Present: 8 - Chair Maria Ruth, Vice Chair Brock Milliern, Committee member
Brent Barnes, Committee member Barbara Benson, Committee
member Spence Cearns, Committee member Kyle Guzlas, Committee

2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
The agenda was approved.

4. PUBLIC COMMENT
Bob Jacobs and James Reddick shared their thoughts about the idea of an Arts Center
located at the Armory building. Oliver Wu advocated for installation of an asphalt pump
track at one of Olympia's parks.
5. ANNOUNCEMENTS
Parks Planning & Design Manager/Staff Liaison Laura Keehan shared updates about
the Aquatic Center Feasibility Study, Lions Park Sprayground, Off-leash Dog Areas, and
the Parks Plan update.
6. BUSINESS ITEMS
Briefing on the Armory Creative Campus Business Plan

Program Specialist Angel Nava shared information about an idea for an Arts Center at
the Armory building.

Summer Camps Debrief
Program Manager Tad Earley provided an overview of a typical summer camp season
and the changes this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.

OPARD COVID-19 Update
Director Paul Simmons gave an update on the Department's current status during
COVID-19 and an outlook on 2021.
The report was received.
7. REPORTS
Vice Chair Milliern and Committee member Benson provided an overview of the recent
OMPD Advisory Board meeting.
The Aquatic Center Feasibility Study will have an online public survey that opens at the
end of October.
Committee member Murillo shared that the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan is available
for review and comment.
9. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 7:56 p.m.

4. PUBLIC COMMENT
Citizens should email public comments to Laura Keehan (lkeehan@ci.olympia.wa.us) by 4:00pm on the
date of the meeting. Written public comments will be emailed to all committee members. Citizens may
share verbal comments at the meeting only if they have registered for the meeting on Zoom by 4:00pm on
the date of the meeting and indicated that they would like to speak.
During this portion of the meeting, citizens may address the Advisory Committee or Commission
regarding items related to City business, including items on the Agenda. In order for the Committee or
Commission to maintain impartiality and the appearance of fairness in upcoming matters and to comply
with Public Disclosure Law for political campaigns, speakers will not be permitted to make public
comments before the Committee or Commission in these two areas: (1) on agenda items for which the
Committee or Commission either held a Public Hearing in the last 45 days, or will hold a Public Hearing
within 45 days, or (2) where the speaker promotes or opposes a candidate for public office or a ballot
measure.
