1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Corso called the meeting to order at 5:41 p.m.

2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
The agenda was approved with removal of the ambassador report and
approval of work plan items.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Approval of January 8, 2015 PBIA Meeting Minutes.

Food truck owner Jacob David was introduced.

5. BRIEF COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS & UPDATES
Boardmember Connie Phegley described actions of the Clean and Safe Committee,
including butterfly-shaped cigarette butt collection containers that will be placed
around downtown, artesian well improvements, a 24-hour bathroom, murals, and
walking patrols.
Boardmember Janis Dean described the Marketing Committee, which includes topics
of “messaging” and the graphics associated with this, promoting independent
businesses, a downtown walking map, promoting a friendly environment downtown,
sponsorships to encourage visits to downtown, a seminar on marketing a business
cheaply, and holiday decorations downtown.
Chair Mary Corso described a meeting with the director of the Olympia Downtown
Association and their interest in working together to improve downtown. The PBIA has
been invited to Lake Fair to set up a booth and hand out information. The Downtown
Academies have also invited the PBIA to participate and develop speakers to present.
Lastly, an opportunity with the ODA to put an advertising piece into the map, but must
be finished by Friday.
Welcoming packets will also be an area of effort by the PBIA to help inform new
business owners. This will be followed up by a visit by a welcoming ambassador to
explain the PBIA and help provide information.
6. COMMITTEE BREAKOUT SESSION
The committees discussed their individual projects and presented their plans.
The Marketing Committee reported on their group discussion. Ideas included a
parallel parking competition in front of Radiance, creation of a downtown services and
products catalog, website additions, a mobile app, closure of the website,
non-historical historical events around Olympia, increased historical visibility, more
cross-business promotion, better freeway signage to downtown, and new banners.
The Clean and Safe Committee reported on their group discussion. Ideas included a
24-hour bathroom, an OBD liaison, more walking police, a parks liaison, a mural
program, implementation of butterfly-shaped cigarette butt collection containers, an
ambassador program, de-escalation training, service dog stickers for businesses,
pressure washing, and downtown cleanups.
