CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m. 1.A ROLL CALL Present: 8 - Co-Chair Sarah Lloyd, Commissioner Parfait Bassale, Commissioner Rachelle Martin, Commissioner Wesley Nguyen, Commissioner Jessicarae Nunez, Commissioner Marianne Ozmun-Wells, Commissioner Omar Santana-Gomez and Commissioner Larry Watkinson Excused: 2 - Co-Chair Genevieve Chan and Commissioner Fauziya Mohamedali 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA The agenda was approved. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 3.A 22-1001 Approval of September 26, 2022 Social Justice and Equity Commission Meeting Minutes The minutes were approved. 5. ANNOUNCEMENTS The Social Justice and Equity Commission work plan was approved. 6. BUSINESS ITEMS 6.A 22-0998 Briefing on the City of Olympia’s Police Auditor and Discussion on Approach to Developing a Council Recommendation on Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement Assistant City Manager Debbie Sullivan presented background on the community police auditor and goals for police oversight. Staff recommend the launch of an RFP for a consultant to help research and prepare for the recommendation. City of Olympia Page 1 Social Justice & Equity Commission Meeting Minutes October 24, 2022 The discussion was completed. 6.B 22-0999 Discrimination Assessment Request for Proposals The Commission discussed the Discrimination Assessment RFP and their level of individual involvement for scoring and interviews. The discussion was completed. 6.C 22-1000 Commission Mission, Vision, and Values The Commission discussed their Mission, Vision and Values. The core values selected were: humility, authenticity, compassion, humor, curiosity, and love. Commissioner Nunez moved, seconded by Commissioner Santana-Gomez to approve the core values. The motion carried by unanimous vote. 9. ADJOURNMENT The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m. City of Olympia Page 2
