CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 6:03 p.m. 1.A ROLL CALL Present: 9 - Co-Chair Parfait Bassalé, Co-Chair Genevieve Chan, Commissioner Mark Hodgson, Commissioner Rachelle Martin, Commissioner Kevin Mattison, Commissioner Fauziya Mohamedali, Commissioner Wesley Nguyen, Commissioner Robin Rosen-Evans and Commissioner Larry Watkinson Excused: 1 - Commissioner Marianne Ozmun-Wells Absent: 1 - Commissioner Jessicarae Nuñez 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA The agenda was approved. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 3.A 23-1049 Approval of October 23, 2023 Social Justice and Equity Commission Meeting Minutes The minutes were approved. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT Katherine Kravitz-Smith and Leslie Cushman spoke. 5. ANNOUNCEMENTS Social Justice and Equity Program Manager Tobi Hill-Meyer announced that the recruitment process for City advisory boards will open on December 15 and there is one opening for the Social Justice and Equity Commission. Commissioners were encouraged to email Tobi Hill-Meyer if they had any considerations for reviewing the applications. 6. BUSINESS ITEMS 6.A 23-1047 Update on the Community Oversight of Law Enforcement Process City of Olympia Page 1 Social Justice & Equity Meeting Minutes December 4, 2023 Commission Strategic Planning & Performance Manager Stacey Ray updated the Commission on the progress of the Community Oversight of Law Enforcement project and shared high-level themes from discussions with the community and subcommittee co-designers. The discussion was completed. 6.C 23-1048 Fostering Connection & Belonging Community Engagement Assistant City Manager Debbie Sullivan and Strategic Planning & Performance Manager Stacey Ray lead a dialogue with Commissioners to get input regarding the Loom Initiative which is a project where the City will work with different populations to learn community needs, values and priorities. The community-focused recommendations will inform the Comprehensive Plan update, the 2025 City budget and how to continue to foster relationships. The discussion was completed. 6.B 23-1030 City of Olympia Workforce Equity Assessment Update Senior Human Resources Analyst Keli Drake presented on the City of Olympia Workforce Equity Assessment. The assessment included an anonymous survey where City employees provided feedback regarding equity in the workplace.Leadership will review the feedback and take strategic next steps such as policy review, increasing training and a salary survey. The discussion was completed. 7. REPORTS Social Justice and Equity Program Manager Tobi Hill-Meyer reported that in January she will share a draft work plan to share with the Commissioners to get their input before it is finalized in February. 8.
