CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 6:03 p.m. 1.A ROLL CALL Present: 9 - Co-Chair Parfait Bassalé, Co-Chair Genevieve Chan, Commissioner Mark Hodgson, Commissioner Rachelle Martin, Commissioner Kevin Mattison, Commissioner Wesley Nguyen, Commissioner Marianne Ozmun-Wells, Commissioner Robin Rosen-Evans and Commissioner Larry Watkinson Excused: 1 - Commissioner Fauziya Mohamedali Absent: 1 - Commissioner Jessicarae Nuñez 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA The agenda was approved. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 24-0076 Approval of December 4, 2023 Social Justice and Equity Commission Meeting Minutes The minutes were approved. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT Kathy Baros Friedt and Leslie Cushman spoke. Commissioners directed staff to look into public comment procedures. 5. ANNOUNCEMENTS Dontae Payne is the new Mayor with Yến Huỳnh as the Mayor Pro Tem. 6. BUSINESS ITEMS 24-0077 Update on the Community Oversight of Law Enforcement Process City of Olympia Page 1 Social Justice & Equity Commission Meeting Minutes January 22, 2024 Strategic Planning & Performance Manager Stacey Ray provided Commissioners with an update on the Community Oversight of Law Enforcement Process and invited the Subcommittee to meet again in March to dialogue with the Police Auditor and Olympia Police Chief Rich Allen. Commissioners were encouraged to attend the large group work session on January 27 where they could provided feedback on the draft recommendations for Community Oversight. The discussion was completed. 24-0078 Social Justice and Equity Commission 2024-2025 Draft Workplan Commissioners reviewed the Social Justice and Equity Commission 2024-2025 draft workplan and asked clarifying questions. Strategic Planning & Performance Manager Stacey Ray encouraged Commissioners to provide feedback to staff before taking a vote on the draft in February. The discussion was completed. 7. REPORTS The Co-Chairs have received applications for the open Commission seat and encouraged the other Commissioners to share any insights or perspectives to take into consideration when reviewing the applications. 8. OTHER TOPICS Commissioner Martin shared that the Washington Poor People's Campaign is marching on March 2 at 11:00 a.m. starting at the Washington State Capitol. 9.
