CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m. 1.A ROLL CALL Present: 10 - Commissioner Parfait Bassalé, Commissioner Genevieve Chan, Commissioner Karin Arnold, Chair Mark Hodgson, Commissioner Rachelle Martin, Commissioner Kevin Mattison, Commissioner Fauziya Mohamedali, Commissioner Marianne Ozmun-Wells, Vice Chair Robin Rosen-Evans and Commissioner Larry Watkinson Absent: 1 - Commissioner Dr. Amna Qazi 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA The agenda was approved. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 3.A 24-0612 Approval of June 24, 2024 Social Justice and Equity Commission Meeting Minutes The minutes were approved. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT - None 5. ANNOUNCEMENTS Tobi Hill-Meyer has started a new position with the City of Olympia as ADA and Accessibility Coordinator. The Social Justice and Equity Commission will fall under the purview of Interim Assistance City Manager Stacey Ray with William Sullivan serving as the interim Staff Liaison. Commissioners thanked Tobi Hill-Meyer for her work with the Commission. Olympia City Council is participating in a study session about the Experiences of Discrimination in Olympia report. Commissioners are welcome to attend and staff will provide Commissioners with a link to the recording of the meeting. 6. BUSINESS ITEMS City of Olympia Page 1 Social Justice & Equity Meeting Minutes July 22, 2024 Commission 6.A 24-0576 Briefing from World Relief Commissioners received a presentation about the non-profit World Relief and asked clarifying questions. The briefing was received. 6.B 24-0615 Approval of the Social Justice and Equity Commission’s Role in Engaging with the Police Auditor During the Transition to a new Community Board for Oversight of Law Enforcement Commissioner Watkinson moved, seconded by Commissioner Bassalé, to approve the Social Justice and Equity Commission's role in engaging with the Police Auditor for the 2024 Mid-of-Year Report. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 10 - Commissioner Bassalé, Commissioner Chan, Commissioner Arnold, Chair Hodgson, Commissioner Martin, Commissioner Mattison, Commissioner Mohamedali, Commissioner Ozmun-Wells, Vice Chair Rosen-Evans and Commissioner Watkinson Absent: 1 - Commissioner Qazi 6.C 24-0609 Olympia 2045: Transportation Chapter of the Comprehensive Plan Update Senior Planner Michelle Swanson presented on the Transportation chapter of the Comprehensive Plan. The report was received. 7. REPORTS Commissioners thanked Chair Hodgson and Vice Chair Rosen-Evans for presenting the Community Oversight of Law Enforcement recommendations to the Olympia City Council. 8. OTHER TOPICS - None 9.
