MEETING MINUTES 1) Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. 2) Roll Call. Present: Rachel Wagabaza, Lori Anderson, Alyssa Pillar-Kellman (student member), Dan Dick, Luis Loya, Carlene Bechen (VB Trustee) 3) Approval of June 1, 2023 DEI Committee meeting minutes The meeting minutes were approved. 4) Business (Items are for discussion and / or potential action). a) Reading to focus Committee’s attention on work. b) Nehemiah survey sent to Village Staff, Elected Officials, and Various Members of Village Boards / Commissions / Committees on June 22, 2023. Deadline for responses is July 28, 2023 (informational only). c) Discuss Celeste Headlee’s “Hear Me Out” podcast program Discussion Celeste Headlee’s “Hear Me Out” podcast program https://slate.com/podcasts/hearmeout Members discussed the podcast and their thoughts about the presenters’ points. It was a good segue for Dan’s presentation regarding the book Data-Driven DEI, which he read and is sharing with the committee over three meetings. Slides will be attached following final presentation. d) Discuss and prioritize Village polices and ordinances to review. Committee members will review Village of Oregon ordinances and Police Department policies webpages and prioritize their top five. Members will share each priority - #1s, #2s, etc. – at the next DEI Committee meeting on August 2, 2023 to determine where we will begin in reviewing ordinances and providing feedback. Members of the DEI Committee are not receiving the agenda and packet when Candie sends them out. Currently, Carlene is forwarding them to members with other reminders. Carlene will check in with Candie about this. Tim Higgins was appointed to the DEI Committee by President Phil Van Kampen.
