Public Safety Committee

PROCEEDINGS OF THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE The Public Safety Committee of the Village of Oxford, Marquette County, Wisconsin met on Monday, June 20, 2022 in the Council Room of the Oxford Village Hall. The meeting was called to order at 6:12 PM by Chairman Gary Sorensen with Committee Members Erwin Meyer, Richard Bohringer, and Carrie Rozek present. Also in attendance was Chief Mike Kowalski. Motion made by Meyer/Rozek to approve the steps on the agenda as printed. Motion carried. Chairman Sorensen advised the Committee of the current status of the Municipal Court. The Municipal Court Board is requesting each participating municipality to provide $1,000.00 in financial assistance to cover the Court’s expenses. Motion made by Rozek/Bohringer to recommend to the full Board to pay $1,000.00 to the Municipal Court for continued operational expenses. Motion carried. Police operations, staffing needs, and possible employee incentives were discussed. Chief Kowalski advised there will be coverage for the 4th of July events. An update on the status of the current staff roster was provided. Motion made by Rozek/Bohringer to recommend to the Village Board to implement a Police Department weekend pay differential of $1.50 from Fridays beginning at 6:00 PM and ending on Sundays at 6:00 PM and offering the incentive of the Fraternal Order of Police Legal Defense membership to police staff working 12 hours per month for a minimum of 144 hours annually, effective immediately and prorated for 2022. Motion carried. Motion made by Rozek/Meyer to adjourn at 7:14 PM.
