Public Safety Committee

PROCEEDINGS OF THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE The Public Safety Committee of the Village of Oxford, Marquette County, Wisconsin met on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 in the Council Room of the Oxford Village Hall. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM by Chairman Gary Sorensen with Committee Members Erwin Meyer, Richard Bohringer, and Carrie Rozek present. Also in attendance were Chief Mike Kowalski, Leanne McGuire and Kathy Terwelp. Motion made by Rozek/Meyer to approve the agenda as printed. Motion carried. Chairman Sorensen offered meeting attendees the opportunity to express an opinion on the proposed amendment to the village ordinance prohibiting domesticated fowl within village limits. The Committee discussed amending the ordinance to allow chickens, leaving all other domesticated fowl as prohibited, and prepared a draft ordinance. Motion made by Meyer/Rozek to forward the proposed ordinance to amend Village of Oxford Ordinance Sec. 18-115(e), which prohibits the keeping of domesticated fowl, and a proposed resolution to set the application fee to the full Board. Motion carried. Chief Kowalski addressed the Committee regarding equipment needs of the Department. Currently, the Department is equipped with a rifle that is borrowed from the County. The County is returning their rifles to the federal government to avoid completing annual federal audits on the rifles. A proposal from Top Pack Defense in the amount of $1,592.99 was presented. The proposal included a fully equipped rifle that would be consistent with the equipment used by other Departments in the County. Motion made by Meyer/Bohringer to purchase the rifle. Motion carried.
