Public Safety Committee

PROCEEDINGS OF THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE The Public Safety Committee of the Village of Oxford, Marquette County, Wisconsin met on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 in the Council Room of the Oxford Village Hall. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by Chairman Gary Sorensen with Committee Members Erwin Meyer, Richard Bohringer, and Carrie Rozek present. Also in attendance was Chief Mike Kowalski. Motion made by Rozek/Bohringer to approve the agenda as printed. Motion carried. Chief Kowalski addressed the Committee to advise the Village was awarded a Law Enforcement Agency Grant from the State of Wisconsin in the amount of $7,000.00. The Committee discussed options for approved usage of the funds that must be spent by June of 2023. Possible expenditures considered included security surveillance equipment for the park and village hall and road barricades. Motion made by Meyer/Bohringer to forward the recommended usage of grant funds to the full board. Motion carried. The proposed 2023 Police Budget was presented and explained by Chief Kowalski. The status of the current department roster was discussed. Motion made by Rozek/Meyer to forward the proposed 2023 Police Budget, with the $7,000.00 public safety grant integrated into it, to the Finance Committee. Motion carried. The 2023 Fire District Budget was presented, and Committee Chairman Sorensen explained the Village’s share. Due to the decrease in the Village’s population estimate, the equalized value, and the number of calls the Village had in the last year, the Village’s obligation for the 2023 fire budget decreased from last year. Motion made by Meyer/Rozek to accept the Village’s share of the proposed 2023 Fire District Budget and forward it to the Finance Committee. Motion carried. The Public Safety Budget for 2023 was discussed and prepared for presentation to the Finance Committee. Motion made by Meyer/Rozek to forward the Public Safety Budget as recommended to the Finance Committee. Motion carried. Motion made by Rozek/Meyer to adjourn at 7:49 PM.
