Adjournment  CITY OF PACIFIC Meramec Valley Historical Society Meeting 300 Hoven Dr Pacific, MO 63069 October 6, 2023 at 5:00p.m. Call to order: The regular meeting was called to order at 5:00 pm by Chairman Titter. Present for the Meramec Valley Historical Society: Jeff Titter, Donna Graham, Wayne Winchester, Bonnie Post. Absent: Dennis Oliver City Staff: Community Development Clerk Wilson, Aldermen Scott Lesh Approval of Minutes Motion by Donna Graham, seconded by Wayne Winchester to approve the minutes from August 9, 2023. A voice vote was taken with an affirmative result. Public Participation No public participation New Business A. Genealogy Center Update Chairman Titter states that the genealogy center is open by appointment and read from Tourism Director O’Malley’s report. The Genealogy Center has had 6 visitors since opening. 5 on Grand Opening and 1 while they were open. They have received no calls about Genealogy. 1 person said that we did not have the family they were looking for, the other 5 said they would be coming back when they had more time to sit and read. B. Guest Speakers/Programs at Red Cedar Chairman Titter states that he would like to see Red Cedar host some speakers next year. The Historical Society will need to help organize and they will need to figure out seating. Alderman Lesh states that the city may have folding chairs that could be used. He will look into it. C. Facebook Page Chairman Titter states there are plans for posts about the exhibits at Red Cedar and other interesting items. One of the Ryans will start posting items we have that he thinks people will find interesting. D. Tablecloth/Banner Chairman Titter says that Tourism Director O’Malley is starting to attend some history fairs to help promote the Meramec Valley Historical Society and Red Cedar Museum. Tourism Director O’Malley would like to purchase a $90 tablecloth to set up as these events that says Meramec Valley Historical Society on it. 1 Motion by Donna Graham, seconded by Wayne Winchester to approve the purchase of a tablecloth for the Meramec Valley Historical Society. A voice vote was taken with an affirmative result. E. Storage Tubs Chairman Titter states that Tourism Director O’Malley is asking for them to purchase 32 storage tubs for genealogy center. In Tourism Director O’Malley’s report she states, “We would like to be consistent in the sizes and ensure they are stackable. The tubs we are recommending/requesting are the Hefty 72 Qt. Clear Storage Bin with Blue HI-RISE Lid - Walmart.com. We need 32 of them for now at $11 each. The other size storage containers we are recommending/requesting are Sterilite® ClearView Latch™ 60 Quart Wheeled Underbed Tote with Latching Lid. We need 42 of them at $17.99 each.” Chairman Titter states that the total needed to purchase tubs is $1,108. Motion by Donna Graham, seconded by Wayne Winchester to approve the purchase of tubs for the genealogy center in the amount of $1,108. A voice vote was taken with an affirmative result. F. Meeting Location Chairman Titter says that he would like for the Historical Society to start meeting at Red Cedar instead of at City Hall. Bonnie Post asks if they would still be able to stream the meetings, but agrees she would like to have their meetings there instead. Aldermen Lesh states that he can the board how they feel about moving the meetings and will try and find out how they could get them streamed online. Motion by Bonnie Post, seconded by Wayne Winchester to ask the Board of Aldermen if they can meet at Red Cedar and get the meetings live streamed. A voice vote was taken with an affirmative result. G. Meramec Valley Historical Society Committee Members volunteer hours Per Chairman Titter, Tourism Director O’Malley has made the request for members of the committee to volunteer. Duties may include greeting guests, talking to them about Pacific and Route 66, running the register, and light cleaning. Volunteers that would be interested in working the Genealogy Center, we have research that can be done, binders that need organized, and other books and binders that need to be gone through and organized into an easy to research and read manner. Someone on our team would train you on what you need to know/how things are being organized. Old Business- A. Interview Project Chairman Titter says that interviews are going to start back up this winter. If anyone knows of someone who like to be interviewed let Tourism Director O’Malley know. B. Plaques Bonnie Post asks if they have a final budget for this project. Chairman Titter states that currently in the budget they have $16,000 and Alderman Lesh agreed. Chairman Titter states that Pauline Mason is going to get him information on the B.F. Allen School and a groups desire to raise money to put a 2 plaque up. They do not want the city to purchase the plaque, just endorse the project and work together to come up with a standard plaque. Reports A. Genealogy/Research Bonnie Post brought up that there is no signage for the Genealogy Center at the Winchester building. Chairman Titter states that one was purchased and is at the building, but hasn’t been installed yet. He will have someone ask to see if they can get that put up. B. Museum/Donated Items Tourism Director O’Malley included a donation list in the meeting packet. Bonnie Post says she appreciates getting this list each month. Thank you cards were discussed, and Bonnie Post volunteered to send them out on behalf of the committee. C. Director Of Tourism Tourism Director O’Malley was absent, but sent a Director’s Report out to the committee. Chairman Titter states that the Grand Opening of Red Cedar was a success. Tourism Director O’Malley has three part time employees on her team and they have met people from all over including as far away as New Zealand. He says Tourism Director O’Malley is going to work on reaching out to many different websites to make sure that Red Cedar shows open with a strong focus on all of the Route 66 apps. Tourism Director O’Malley and her team have been promoting Red Cedar and the genealogy center at many events this fall. Bonnie Post asks if they can add to the interactives and Chairman Titters says yes they can. D. Aldermen Alderman Lesh reminds the committee that the size of their committee has been increased to seven. They currently have five seats filled and are working on filling the other two seats. They will need four present for a quorum. Miscellaneous Bonnie Post states that the signage at the Eureka/Allenton exit needs to be changed to direct people to Red Cedar. She would like to ask Tourism Director O’Malley if she has reached out about that or not. Adjournment Motion made by Donna Graham, seconded by Bonnie Post.
