MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING
OF THE CITY OF PAOLA, KANSAS
6:00 O’CLOCK P.M.
July 2, 2013
HELD AT PAOLA CITY HALL
19 E Peoria Street in Paola
The Governing Body of the City of Paola, Kansas, met with Mayor Stuteville presiding.
Council Members present: Mayor Artie Stuteville and Council Members Jim Pritchard,
Gee Gee Wilhoite, Leigh House, and Aaron Nickelson.
Council Members absent: None.
Also present: City Manager Jay Wieland, City Clerk Dan Droste, Elizabeth
Sweeney-Reeder and Brian McCauley with the Miami County
Republic.
Agenda Item 1 - CALL TO ORDER: The special council meeting was called to order by
Mayor Stuteville.
Agenda Item 2 - ROLL CALL: Mayor Stuteville and Council Members Pritchard,
Wilhoite, House, and Nickelson were present. No one was absent.
Agenda Item 3 - Consider approval disbursements from Transient Guest Tax Funds.
Manager Wieland reported that the Paola Convention and Tourism Committee met on July
1st to review requests for grants from the Transient Guest Tax Fund. The following grants
were recommended for approval by the Committee:
Miami County Arts Coalition, Inc $250 2013 Music on the Square
Paola Trails System Task Force $1,500 Paola Pathways
Paola Farmers Market $500 Farmers Market
Heartland Art Guild $500 2013 Miniatures Art Show
Paola Cal Ripken Baseball $1,000 State Baseball Tournament
Roots Festival Committee $8,000 2013 Roots Festival
City of Paola $2,500 July 3rd Fireworks Display
Total $14,250
After discussion, Council Member Pritchard made a motion to approve disbursements from
the Transient Guest Tax Fund as recommended by the Paola Convention and Tourism
Committee. The motion was seconded by Council Member Wilhoite and all voted aye. The
motion passed 4 to 0.

Manager Wieland discussed the need to fill a vacancy on the Convention and Tourism
Committee. He also reported that the Committee has discussed the possibility of expanding
the Committee from 5 members to 7 as they often have to reschedule meetings due to a lack
of a quorum.
Agenda Item 4 – ADJOURNMENT
With no additional business to come before the Council, Council Member Wilhoite made a
motion to adjourn. Council Member Pritchard seconded the motion and all voted aye. The
motion passed 4 to 0.

Paola, Kansas, hereby respectfully request you to call a Special Meeting and a Work Study
Meeting of the Governing Body of the City of Paola, Kansas to be held in the Second Floor
Conference Room at Paola City Hall located at 19 E Peoria Street on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at
6:00 pm. The agenda for the Special Meeting is attached and the agenda for the Work Study
Meeting is as follows:
Discussion of the 2014 Budget.
(This is a work study meeting, no action will be taken on any discussion item.)
