Haley Markey – Stated the following: I would first like to thank Mrs. Saban and Councilwoman Zacharias for helping to make this all happen. I would also like to speak on the importance of bringing awareness to albinism. Albinism is a hereditary condition that causes people to have little to no melanin in their hair, skin and eyes resulting in a lighter than expected coloring. Albinism also causes many vision problems. I have a child with oculorutaneous albinism. This affects his hair, skin and eyes. He is 2 years old but was diagnosed when he was 3 months old. Since then, we have been to numerous doctors to help with his problems that come with albinism. He sees his regular pediatrician, dermatologist and also sees an eye doctor every couple of weeks. Even with what people consider setbacks, her son has been the most happy, hearted child through all of this. Some other challenges they have had is having to patch her son’s eyes daily and he also wears glasses. When ever they go outside they have to make sure that every inch of his body is covered with sunscreen. Even on a cloudy, cool and rainy day there is still some UV outside that could harm his skin. It is so important to bring awareness about albinism because many people don’t fully understand the extent of the challenges that a person with albinism has to face. A few things to think about is that her son doesn’t get to open the door to play outside. He doesn’t get to be like a typical child and play all day in the son without a hat or having to constantly stop to get more sunscreen on. What he can visually see is still the unknown until he can communicate what he can see. This could be a setback from getting certain jobs that require better eyesight and this may not even allow him to drive a car in the future. Having the condition doesn’t make him sick or unhealthy but it does increase the risk of getting skin cancer in the future. By bringing awareness to albinism, it would show my son and any one else with albinism that they have a strong support system behind them. I am so grateful to live in a city that would recognize albinism awareness day. Councilman Kussmaul – Stated the location is in Ward 6, and he would strongly ask the members of council to vote No. Feels it will have a negative impact on the Pleasant Valley Shopping Center that is already congested. Seven hundred and fifty cars a day. No other applicant that came forward had anywhere close to this. This will overwhelm the already congested shopping center plaza. Service Director Vannello – Stated that the application is similar to last year where they did a large canopy tree reforestation project at Walter’s Grove. On behalf of the Mayor, he thinks it is an excellent contract. It is a win, win for both the city ad the members, and he thinks it will put them in a very good position in their next upcoming certified list to get good candidates. He is very excited about it. Service Director Vannello – No comment. Auditor – No comment. Law Director Tuma – Thanked Safety Director Coury and David Franz from Zachin and Rich for working on the collective bargaining agreement. They did an excellent job and were very communicative with the Law Department throughout the process. Thanked Council for their support of the ordinance. Councilman Divis – No comment. 10  Councilman Euerle – Appreciated everyone’s help and support with the Planning Committee Meeting. Councilman Kussmaul – Thanked the residents for sticking it out for the whole Meeting and the Auxiliary. Councilwoman Lime – Thanked the Fire Department with the fire in Ward 2 over the weekend. They did an excellent job. Councilwoman Shuman – No comment. Councilwoman Wilson – Stated she had an opportunity to participate in the Pride Festival as an ally and it was absolutely stunning, and she marched as well. Councilwoman Zacharias – No comment. Councilwoman Boyd – Thanked Council for the marathon meeting. Wouldn’t have rather sat here with anyone else. Councilman Casselberry – Also thanked the residents for spending their evening with them.
