RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING CITY OF PASADENA February 9, 2021 – 10:00 a.m. CALL TO ORDER The regular Council Meeting of the City of Pasadena, Harris County, Texas, was called to order by Mayor Jeff A. Wagner. ROLL CALL COUNCIL PRESENT: Jeff A. Wagner – Mayor COUNCIL MEMBERS BRUCE LEAMON - District B PHIL CAYTEN - District F DON HARRISON - District C CARY BASS - District G SAMMY CASADOS - District D THOMAS SCHOENBEIN - District H Absent: Councilmembers Ornaldo Ybarra and Cody Ray Wheeler Also present at the Council table was Linda Rorick, City Secretary. INVOCATION – Brenda Pritchard, Neighborhood Network Specialist PLEDGES OF ALLEGIANCE – Councilmember Bruce Leamon COMMUNITY INTEREST COMMENTS IN ACCORDANCE WITH CHAPTER 551.0415 OF THE GOVERNMENT CODE Councilmember Leamon – Remarked on the “sad event” that took place over last weekend; the passing of Detective Pedro “Pete” Mejia Jr. Extended condolences to the Mejia family and to his brothers and sisters in law enforcement. Councilmember Harrison – Commented this loss is “such a tragic thing”; his thoughts and prayers are with the Mejia family. Councilmember Casados – Extended condolences to the Mejia family and asked for God’s peace for the family. Stated it was just a year ago, when the coronavirus began, that Pete’s dad lost his life to the COVID virus; “very tragic”. Emphasized the importance of taking this virus seriously and to wear masks to protect yourselves and others. SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING 1 Minutes: 02-09-21 10:00 a.m. Councilmember Cayten – Asked that everyone continue to pray for those with COVID- 19 and that this virus can be eradicated. Expressed congratulations to Quarterback Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on their victory. Councilmember Bass – Thanked audience for tuning in to the meeting. Offered condolences to the Mejia family. Councilmember Schoenbein – Extended sincerest condolences to Officer Pete Mejia’s family and asked that God’s grace be “wrapped around them” at this time. Councilmember Leamon – Encouraged everyone to get out and vote in this election. Stated that Councilmembers are elected every two years and the Mayor elected every four years; that these elections are important. MOTION CARRIED, UNANIMOUS. RESOLUTION 2021-016 – Amend Resolution No. 21-005 which appointed Brad Hance to the Board of Pilot Commissioners for a two (2) year term. Councilmember Schoenbein moved, seconded by Councilmember Leamon that Resolution 2021-016 be passed, approved and adopted. MOTION CARRIED, UNANIMOUS.
