MAYOR’S UPDATE Mayor Hector C. Lora updated the council and residents on the following: • COVID statistics from March 2020 to date: 8519 tested positive for Covid-19; of those there were 309 deaths. Passaic Covid numbers continue to decline. • Covid testing and vaccinations for 12 and over at walk-in locations -St Mary’s general hospital,350 Blvd. on Wednesdays from 9am-2pm, indoor facilities Thursdays 9am-2pm. • Food distribution will continue on Wednesdays from 2pm at City Hall until supplies deplete and Thursdays from Passaic City Council June 22, 2021 Minutes PUBLIC MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASSAIC WAS CONDUCTED AS A LIVE STREAM VIA FACEBOOK 2:30 pm at 122 8th Street distribution center until supplies run out. • Passaic Firefighters Juneteenth celebration ceremony in honor of Passaic's first African American Firefighter William L. Green who became a firefighter on February 1, 1951. • NAACP first Juneteenth celebration held on Saturday at Memorial Park band camp. • City of Passaic and Passaic City Council had its Juneteenth event at city hall with refreshments and fireworks on Saturday evening. • Cleanup event on School Street off Madison and George streets. • Initiative to change the surfaces of all playgrounds into rubberized surfaces. • There will be fireworks for 4th of July. • Educational opportunities for city in form of $2 million dollar grants, with help of Assemblyman Schaer. • A moment of silence for the passing of Katie Johnson of the Housing dept. Two graduations this week, for Passaic Arts and Science Charter School High School at Third Ward Park on, June 24 and high school graduation on June 28th. After 7 P.M., the City Council will hold a public hearing. The purpose of the hearing is to obtain public comment on a grant application to be submitted by the City of Passaic to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Green Acres Land Acquisition and Park Development Grant Program. The application will discuss funding request for various park improvements for Christopher Columbus Park, Columbia Park, Colonel Johnson Park, Main Memorial Park, Third Ward Park, Armory Park and Pulaski Park. The application will also discuss camera systems, lighting systems and rubberized surfacing at various park locations. The City Council members will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. All residents are encouraged to attend and participate. However, in accordance with N.J.S.A. 10:4-12 “nothing in this Act shall be construed to limit the discretion of a public body to permit, prohibit or regulate the active participation at any meeting,” Therefore, the City Council will not entertain any comments from persons who communicate obscene material, make statements which are considered bias intimidation in which any person attempts to intimidate any individual or group because of race, color, religion, handicap, sexual orientation or ethnicity or makes personally offensive or abusive, defamatory or profane comments, comments intending to harass or speak any offensive or abusive language. The person who makes these statements will relinquish their allotted five minutes for public discussion.
