CITY OF PELICAN RAPIDS COUNCIL MINUTES – 07-10-00
The City Council of Pelican Rapids met in regular session at 6:30 p.m., 07-10-00, in the
Pelican Rapids Public Library meeting room. Present: Mayor Wayne Runningen,
Council Members Paulette Nettestad, John Waller III, Dave Gottenborg. Absent:
Denise Magnusson. Also present: Administrative Assistant Richard A. Jenson, Deputy
Clerk-Treasurer Glenys Ehlert, Street Superintendent Vernon Benson, Utilities
Superintendent Brent Frazier and Police Chief Greg Ballard.
Meeting called to order by Mayor Wayne Runningen.
No additions or deletions were made to the agenda.
Motion by Waller, seconded by Nettestad to approve minutes of 6-12, 6-19 and 6-28-00
as presented. Motion passed unanimously.
Council reviewed Accounts Payable Listing of 7-10-00.
Motion by Waller, seconded by Nettestad to approve payment of the Accounts Payable
Listing of 7-10-00 with the following additions: The Language Co., CUB Software
Update, $100.00; Scott Sachs, Police Mileage, $15.00 and Thein Well Co., Water
Purchase, $386.37. Motion passed unanimously.
Police Chief Greg Ballard presented his report to council regarding the new police car
that will be in service in one to two weeks. Ballard said interviews will be set up soon
for new full time police officers and he expects payments from the COPS grant in one to
two weeks. He expects payment of $70,000 for the past 18 months of the program.
Superintendent of Streets and Parks Vernon Benson reviewed his department’s
activities.
Utilities Superintendent Brent Frazier reported on his department’s activities. He
reported at length on the Well Head Protection Plan and meetings regarding it.
Council reviewed the May Liquor Store report.
Deputy Clerk-Treasurer Glenys Ehlert presented the June Clerk’s Recap, June
Investment Schedule and the 6-30-00 Quarterly Actual to Budget Year to Date Report.
Frazier reported on the Well Field Study discussed at a previous meeting. More
information will be available at the 07-26-00 meeting.
Motion by Waller, seconded by Nettestad to request an additional proposal for the Well
Field Study. Motion passed unanimously.
Council discussed Soccer Team Recognition and directed a letter be written to coaches
and team members congratulating them on their teamwork and accomplishments this
year in representing the community in the state competition.
Motion by Gottenborg, seconded by Nettestad to approve the Minnesota Department of
Transportation Transit Resolution. (A complete text is part of permanent public record
in the city clerk’s office.) Motion passed unanimously.
