I personnaly knew the mayors and city employees of Peoria when there were only 4,000 residents in this agrcultural community. Eventhough I joined the Army in 1971 I always knew that one day I would return and wanted to figure a way to serve my community. Much has changed over the past fifty years but understanding how we are connected to other regions of the country is important for not only the old-timers but knew residents. Knowing that many of the early farmers and ranchers in the area came from southern Illinois and Missouri is almost intuitive but how we are connected to the pacific northwest might be something of interest. Experience/Professional Qualification: In addition to being resident of Peoria, I am also on the Economic Development Advisory Board. I have been on various boards and commisions throughout by career and these experiences have and will continue to serve me well in future similar postions. Vision: The geographic footprint of Peoria and know resources support planned judicious growth in residential as well as business and industrial bases. Much the same as Peoria was a significant agrigultural cog in the west valley during the 1940s, through the 1970s it can be a business and industrial cog moving forward. If you think of a city as a living organism it is even morimortant to understand what the DNA of the city is in order to project where it might be in ten or more years. My experience using library services has been overwhelmingly positive - I especially enjoy the access to cultural passes, resale of donated books, and free seeds offered at the library. I was very pleased with the responsiveness and receptiveness of the Peoria Director of Library and Cultural Services in listening to a concern. I regularly use the parks in my community and appreciate the availability of excellent facilities to include tennis courts, pickle-ball courts, and playing facilities. I believe Peoria has many outstanding parks and access to recreation.
