The reason why I would like to join is because it will be a career-shaping opportunity. Qualifications: The only qualifications, or training is when my children were smaller and I volunteered with the art festive in the Glendale school district for a couple of years. Vision: My concept vision over the next decade for the city of Peoria is a nice and vibrant city full of Ortiz, popping color, Art can play into that by just looking around at your current city location, some cities have Maria Palo Verde art murals and some just have lovely paintings up above on their walls, it helps out the fact that some Marcella people can't verbally express themselves, so they find ways to do so through art or music, etc. it helps out a lot more people than you think it does. Role: Art plays a big role in everything you see, TV Shows, Broadcasts, Movies, etc. they're all covered in color with drawings, art, paintings, even if its a black and white TV show/movie, you see little things in the back that resemble art in different ways or if you look at podcasts, you always see some type of pattern with posters or boards or anything with color on the walls, take a look at Los Angeles, Miami Florida, or New York City for example, they have city murals and it helps bring out the vibrancy of the area, it helps bring out life in different things, and it brings them out in peoples days too. Interests: I am interested in serving on the Peoria Arts and Culture Commission to contribute to the growth and vitality of the community through public art. I am passionate about promoting cultural diversity, supporting economic development, and increasing public engagement with the arts. Additionally, I aim to advocate for arts in education and collaborate with various sectors to enhance our city's cultural landscape. I feel I can help create a vibrant, inclusive community where everyone can enjoy and participate in the arts by serving on the board or commission. Qualifications: I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design, which has provided me with a solid foundation in both the theoretical and practical aspects of art. My background in art history, combined with hands-on experience working in art museums and galleries, has given me a deep appreciation for the preservation and promotion of public art. As an artist myself, I have run my own photography and graphic design business, further honing my marketing and design skills. I also participated and acted in a play in 2022 at Theater Works, which enriched my understanding of the performing arts. I have not only assisted art galleries but have also had my work shown in galleries throughout Kentucky and Georgia. Art is in my blood, instilled in me by my grandmother, Joan Dance, a renowned folk artist whose work is housed in the Art in Embassies program by the U.S. Department of State. Much like the rest of the state, Peoria is going to exponentially grow over the next decade. Because of this, the city should continue its preservation efforts, while also taking on the task of conducting a new historic resource survey. This updated evaluation will enable the city to see what resources currently exist in Peoria, which will help guide future planning and identify both archaeological sites and historic properties that have come of age or will in the foreseeable future. There's a number of veterans that has not been seen since Viet Nam. With the advance of weaponry and medical advances the numbers of survivors has increased that many Vets have slipped into areas that are harder to bring them to areas of help. Interest: I served 42 years with the United States Air Force; 20 years as a military air traffic controller, retiring as a Master Sergeant and 22 years as a Senior Civilian (GS-15) in Washington, DC (National Guard Bureau). I joined the Air Force at the age of 17 and am an Army brat (My Dad served in the Army for 21 years). So, this tells you, the military has been part of my life since the day I was born (Zweibrucken, Germany at an Army hospital). My hope is my knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with military veterans makes me a viable candidate to serve on the Veterans Memorial Board. Qualifications: Short bio is attached. As the President of the Trilogy at Vistancia Veterans Club, I have made solid contacts with various veteran clubs in the area. This includes: Corte Bella Vets, Ventana Lakes Veterans, and Westbrook Village Vets. These relationships, along with my military and civil service experience, would enhance an already talented Veterans Board. Experience: As President of the Trilogy at Vistancia Veterans Club, I have gotten our club involved in a plethora of veteran causes to include: MANA House, U.S. Vets of Phoenix, Packages from Home, Veterans First, LTD, Honor Flight Arizona, National Military Veterans Wheelchair Games, Moving Wall, Patriot All America Golf Invitational, and Operation Homefront. Our Club also hosts a bi-annual charity golf tournament, where all the funds go directly to MANA House, U.S. Vets of Phoenix, and Veterans First, LTD. Duke, Scott Mesquite We raised over $47,000.00 through our last two golf tournaments. Engagement: As a GS-15 (military Colonel equivalent), working at the National Guard Bureau (NGB), I served as a Division Chief, reporting directly to a one-star General. I was tasked on several occasions to be the team lead in setting up National Airspace Conferences and Air Traffic Control Committee events. This included creating agendas, finding conference room space, soliciting speakers, and working food and beverage issues. As President of the Trilogy at Vistancia Veterans Club, one of my responsibilities is planning the annual Military Veterans Gala for our club. This also includes such details as setting the room up, selecting menu for Gala, ensuring appropriate entertainment is available, making award presentations and presenting the club with an annual State of the Club speech. Role: The main and most important role for a city is to never forget our military veterans. We need to make sure we adequately recognize our military veterans throughout the year. We need to bring them "front and center" at appropriate times during the year, but moreover, support veterans everyday of the year. For example, I created a program called, "Totes for Troops." Twice-a-year, our Trilogy at Vistancia Veterans Club supports MANA house with a variety of personal hygiene items and small household items. This program is not associated with any holiday or military day. We just do it, twice a year. Interest: I am interested in representing the veterans of Peoria and community. I hope to gain a stronger bond with the veterans in the community as well as being able to inform others of their service. Qualifications/Training/Previous Experience: I am a current member of the local VFW and have worked with the community at large for many years. Also a member of Disabled Veterans of America, and American Legion. Special Events Experience: Have been involved in annual poppy sales with VFW for several years.
