CITY OF PIEDMONT – SPECIAL MEETING OF THE PARK & RECREATION BOARD George Fina Municipal Building 314 Edmond Road NW Wednesday May 24th, 2023 6:00 P.M. MEMBERS PRESENT: Jason Barry, Barbara Walker, and Billy Saunders MEMBERS ABSENT: None STAFF PRESENT: City Manager Josh Williams, Mayor Kurt Mayabb, and City Secretary Morgan Clark 1) CALL TO ORDER – Designated meeting leader Jason Barry called the meeting to order at 6:07 pm. 2) ROLL CALL- City Secretary Morgan Clark took role. 3) BUSINESS ITEMS – a. Discussion and possible action on new potential board members. The board had discussion on still finding new members. This item was tabled. b. Discussion and possible action on park maintenance. There are various things that need attention at the park. The community park includes: lights, handicap swing tethers, and the astronaut head. The spider rope was replaced and 3 valves are scheduled to be replaced on 05.25.23. Before opening, inventory for the restrooms needs to be checked. The board and city staff discussed the issue with the fence along Gooder Simpson Blvd. It will be taken into consideration to have this fence removed. The volleyball courts need some attention as well.  c. Discussion and possible action on maintenance of the trails. There has been an ongoing case of illegal use of motor vehicles on the trails as well as vandalism to the street signs on the East side of said trails. d. Discussion and possible action on opening the park/ splash pad for 2023.
