MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE MAYOR’S YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE HELD ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 10, 2023 IN THE PINETOP-LAKESIDE TOWN HALL LOCATED 325 W. WHITE MOUNTAIN BLVD., LAKESIDE, AZ 85929 A. Call to Order: Chairman Smithson called the meeting to order at 7:03 a.m. Pledge of Allegiance: Chairwoman Smithson led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll Call: Grace Smithson Chairman Jesse Stroup Vice Chairman Brooke Horne Secretary Jackson Woods Treasurer Rain Dimaliwat Historian *Sienna Grzelak Member *Josiah Grzelak Member *denotes tardy Also present: Mackenzie Valichnac Deputy Town Clerk Stephanie Irwin Mayor Kristi Salskov Town Clerk B. Consent Agenda: B.1 Minutes of MYAC Regular Meeting held on June 14, 2023. Member Stroup moved to approve the following minutes: Minutes of MYAC Regular Meeting held on June 14, 2023. The motion was seconded by Member Woods and carried unanimously with a 5-0 vote. B.2 Minutes of MYAC Work Session meeting held on June 14, 2023. Member Dimaliwat moved to approve the following minutes: Minutes of MYAC Work Session meeting held on June 14, 2023. The motion was seconded by Member Horne and carried unanimously with a 5-0 vote. C. New Business: C.1 Nexus Coalition presentation and Discussion regarding a project collaboration for FY 2023-24. Becky Belnap and Stacey Heath explained an effective way to spread to spread substance abuse awareness. She also spoke about the teen court the town of Show Low has. This division program gives juveniles in trouble the chance to do community service and to take classes from NEXUS on decision making. About 55-75 teen court cases take place in Show Low every year. High school students are on the jury, defense, and prosecution. In addition, Chris Herren has created a documentary called “The First Day” which talks about the beginning of drug and alcohol use. Member Horne will talk to her NHS advisor to talk about getting the film to be shown at Blue Ridge High School. Another possible project is to start up a SADD team (Students Against Destructive Decisions). C.2 Update on the Backpack Snacks Community Food Drive. Member J. Grzlelak volunteered to speak with Rod Hephner on a podcast to spread the word about backpack snacks. MYAC members are encouraged to pass flyers out to businesses and to help pack backpack sacks. C.3 Discuss League Annual Conference Poster. MYAC members will meet at the town hall on Thursday, August 17th at 7am to create an annual conference poster. C.4 Discussion and Legal Action Regarding Serving Lunch at the White Mountain Community Center. On Monday August 14th, MYAC members will serve lunch at the community center at 11:15am. Member Smithson moved to approve the following: Committee Serving lunch on Monday, August 14th at the Pinetop-Lakeside Community. Center, formally Pinetop-Lakeside Senior Center. The motion was seconded by Member K. Grzelak and carried unanimously with a 7-0 vote. C.5 Discussion and Legal Action Regarding running the August 17th Town Council Meeting. MYAC members read though the town council meeting script and were assigned parts. MYAC members will meet at the town council at Member J. Grzelak moved the approve the following: MYAC members to conduct the August 17th Town Council meeting. The motion was seconded by Member Woods and was passed unanimously with a 7-0 vote. D. Public Comments: MYAC members attending the League conference are asked to bring their blue MYAC shirts. E.
