Council Minutes May 21, 2020 – 7:00 p.m. Regular Meeting The Pinson City Council met in regular session in Council Chambers at 4410 Main Street on Thursday, May 21, 2020. Mayor Sanders led the invocation. Councilor Tanner led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. Roll Call: Marie Turner, City Clerk, called roll of Pinson City Council with the following council members present: Mayor Sanders Councilor Tanner Councilor Galamore Councilor Roberts Councilor Churchwell Councilor McCain Minutes: Councilor Roberts offered a motion to waive the reading of the May 7, 2020, minutes. Councilor Churchwell duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for all opposed to say "no", all in favor say "aye." Councilor Churchwell made a motion to accept the minutes as written of the May 7, 2020, meeting. Councilor McCain duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for any discussion. As there was no discussion, Mayor Sanders called for all opposed to say "no", all in favor say "aye." Mayor Sanders" Let the record reflect both motions passed unanimously". Committee Chair Comments: Finance: Councilor Tanner offered a motion to pay the bills in the amount of $36,925.24, a copy of the bills schedule is attached. Councilor Roberts duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for any discussion. After some discussion, Mayor Sanders called for all opposed to say "no", all in favor say "aye." Mayor Sanders "Let the record reflect the motion passed unanimously." Mayors Report: Mayor Sanders suspended rules and opened a public hearing regarding 5807 South Road. Mr. Odeneal, Son of the owner of 5807 South Road, explained to council his father has cancer and undergoing treatments. Adding, the family will be taking care of the property to bring it into compliance. Mayor Sanders stated, we will delay presentation of the resolution regarding court action for 30 days. Mayor Sanders reinstated rules. Councilor Roberts offered a resolution declaring a public nuisance relating to overgrown grass/weeds at 3640 McMurrey Lane. Councilor McCain duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders stated the home is in foreclosure, owned by the bank, and there has been no contact from the owner. Mayor Sanders called for any discussion. As there was no discussion, Mayor Sanders asked for a roll call vote on the main resolution with the following results: Mayor Sanders-yes; Councilor Tanner-yes; Councilor Galamore-yes; Councilor Roberts-yes; Councilor Churchwell-yes; Councilor McCain-yes. Mayor Sanders, resolution passes unanimously as, Resolution 20-19. Bob Jones, Zoning Administrator, reported on 4719 Brook Crest Lane, stating the basement wall has been taken down and the lot has seed and hay for growth. Adding, everything has been done except the removal of the car in the driveway. Old Business: Mayor Sanders suspended rules. Rusha Smith, Executive Director, FWLT and Liz Sims, Conservation Director, FWLT, spoke to council regarding land at TCNP owned by FWLT. Mayor Sanders reinstated rules. Mayor Sanders offered a first reading on an ordinance authorizing the city’s exchange of certain real property located at 3104 and 3108 Sweeney Hollow Circle for property located in the Turkey Creek Nature Preserve. Mayor Sanders stated the property located in TCNP is approximately 30 acres at the entrance and contains the Nature Center, House, and the Meadow, which is the proposed location for the pavilion. Mayor Sanders mentioned there will be a Ribbon Cutting at Taco Bell, Tuesday 5/26/2020, at 9:30 a.m., adding we appreciate their investment in our community. Mayor Sanders mentioned PVHS Graduation will be, Wednesday, 5/27/2020, at 10:00 a.m. Mayor Sanders added, we are putting up burgundy ribbons next week to honor the graduates. Chief Coleman, Center Point Fire District gave the Fire District report. Councilor Churchwell moved to adjourn. Councilor McCain duly seconded the motion. Mayor Sanders called for all opposed to say “no”, all in favor say “aye”. Motion carried.
