MINUTES
PRESENT:
Recreation & Parks Commission: Andrew Mathews, Jackie Neau, Peter Nolan, and Richard
Zito.
Recreation & Parks Staff: Steve Youel and Matt Lishman.
ABSENT: Jerry Barton, Commissioner
GUESTS:
ADOPTION OF AGENDA: Mr. Zito made the motion to approve the agenda. Mr.
Mathews seconded the motion. Motion approved unanimously.
PUBLIC COMMENT: None
STATUS REPORTS:
Youth Assistance Fund: Mr. Lishman reported that since the September meeting there
were a total of 40 requests in the amount of $1,918.50. We did not receive any donations.
The projected fund balance is $5,340.82.
ACTION ITEMS:
Adult Sport Fees: Mr. Lishman reported minimum wage will be increasing by $1.00 to
$10.00 per hour on January 1, 2016. This increase will have an impact on our Adult Sports
programs which include: Adult Softball, 5x5 Basketball, 3x3 Basketball, and Volleyball. In
addition to minimum wage increasing, the cost of softballs is increasing by $3.00 per dozen.
These Costs will have a financial impact on the Recreation Division’s annual operating
budget for the 2015-2016 fiscal year. In order to offset the additional expenditures in the
Adult Sports program, staff is recommending a fee increase in each program area.
Staff is recommending a $10 increase in Softball to $476, an $11 increase in 5x5 Basketball to
$421, a $6 increase in 3x3 Basketball to $116 and a $6 increase in Volleyball to $146. These
numbers may change slightly before going to City Council after the Finance Department
reviews our numbers. Although these increases will not be popular with the managers and
players, this will put the City’s league fees in-line with similar agencies as shown in
Attachment A. Tonight, staff is requesting that the Commission support Staff’s
recommendation establishing Registration Fee increases for our adult sports programs
effective January 1, 2016.
Mr. Mathews made a motion to approve staffs recommendations on fee increases. Mr.
Nolan 2nd the motion. Motion approved unanimously.
Meeting adjourned to joint Recreation Commission/City Council meeting at 6:08 pm.

Recommendation that the Commission approve staff’s
recommendation establishing registration fees effective January 1,
2016 for the following:
1. Adult softball team registration fee of $476 per team; and
2. Adult 5 x 5 basketball team registration of $421 per team; and
3. Adult 3 x 3 basketball team registration fee of $116 per team;
and
4. Adult 4 x 4 volleyball team registration fee of $146 per team.
