CITY OF PLACERVILLE RECREATION & PARKS COMMISSION May 17, 2023 MINUTES PRESENT: Recreation & Parks Commission: Larissa Lujan, Tony Windle Recreation & Parks Staff: Matt Lishman, Terry Zeller, Lily Palmer ABSENT: Kelley Rogers, Steven Vance, Lynne Spencer GUESTS: Mickey Killion, Craig Lorenzi, Teresa Brown ADOPTION OF AGENDA: No action taken due to lack of quorum. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: No action taken due to lack of quorum. PUBLIC COMMENT: Craig Lorenzi shared his thoughts about the softball fields at Lion’s Park, that they were looking well, and he was upset the flag football players were playing on the fields when they were told they were not allowed to start their softball season until June this year. He asked if we were putting the kids playing flag football in danger due to the fields not being fit for the season yet. Mr. Zeller answered that the fields were too wet to play on for the softball players, and he is currently working on the infield lip to level it out. Flag football was able to play on the portion of the field without interfering with the infield work. There is some machinery out there ready to start work on the fields soon. He is currently working on getting some better lighting to light the fields and trying to cut down the field in areas where it is uneven and progressively thinning out the field. A proposed budget of $120,000 will be brought to the city council meeting on May 30th at 5:00 PM at Town Hall. Mickey Killian expressed concern with the gopher mounds in the fields. Teresa Brown shared she was concerned with the loss of community involvement because they feel deceived, but she is glad Mr. Zeller is bringing the fields irrigation project to City Council. Mr. Zeller explained the fields issue with the nineteen leaks that occurred last year in the irrigation system. Teresa Brown was surprised nobody had sued due to the state of the bleachers. She said they are in such poor shape they could be a liability. Mickey Killian purchased a tractor and offered to help if needed in field projects. He would like to see the outfields filled in before the season begins. He would like a list of what he can do to help as a volunteer. Larissa Lujan wanted to get everybody’s information so she could reach out individually. She wants to focus on finding a solution. Asked what we can do as a community to fix the issue. Mickey Killian mentioned filling in the holes with dirt. Mr. Zeller responded that due to the weather the proper treatment to fix the problem properly would have to wait until it is cooler to do so. ACTION ITEMS: Tour of Scout Hall and the Placerville Aquatic Center was given by Mr. Zeller. STAFF REPORTS: Meeting was adjourned at 7:00 pm.
