CITY OF POCATELLO, IDAHO CITY COUNCIL STUDY SESSION CLARIFICATION WORKING LUNCH SEPTEMBER 21, 2017 Mayor Brian Blad called the City Council Study Session Clarification Working Lunch to order at 1:03 p.m. Council members present were Heidi Adamson, Roger Bray, Steve Brown, Jim Johnston, Gary Moore and Michael L. Orr. Also in attendance was Shawnie Satterfield Ferrin, Administrative Assistant. Discussion centered on items from the September 14, 2017 Study Session; economic development vision for the city, the proposed central fleet maintenance department, Bannock Development Corporation, the Senior Activity Center, and a potential texting ordinance. No motions or decisions were made. The importance of creating a clear vision for the city, encompassing and surpassing the Siphon Interchange and Northgate Development, was discussed. It was suggested that it might be beneficial to hire an economic development specialist, well versed in resources Pocatello offers, to represent the City in interactions with businesses considering Pocatello. Council explored physical facility options related to the proposed creation of a central fleet maintenance department. It was proposed that Mayor Blad and Jim Johnston research possible sites within the city that could accommodate the fleet department. Council discussed expectations for Bannock Development Corporation. It was noted that information presented to outside businesses could be expanded beyond flash drive files of technical information to include impressive, user-friendly presentations with current information. Possibilities for expanding the City’s social media presence were also explored. Council expressed concern regarding the Senior Center’s current facility and discussed the presentation to build a new facility. Council conferred regarding the possibility of making an ordinance banning texting and cell phone usage by drivers. It was noted that promoting this safety measure with the public, including students, would be key to successful implementation. It was suggested that the Legal Department be consulted on the topic with a presentation to follow at an upcoming City Council Study Session. Mayor Blad adjourned the working lunch at 2:46 p.m. APPROVED: BRIAN C. BLAD, MAYOR ATTEST: RUTH E.
