CITY COUNCIL LIAISON
WORKING LUNCH
NOVEMBER 2, 2017
Mayor Brian Blad called the City Council Liaison Working Lunch to order at 1:04 p.m. Council
members present were Heidi Adamson, Roger Bray, Jim Johnston, Gary Moore and Michael L. Orr.
Also in attendance was Ruth Whitworth, City Clerk and Jared Johnson, City Attorney. Council member
Steve Brown was excused.
Discussion centered on Boards/Committees the Council are liaison to and general City topics. No
formal action was taken.
Logan McDougall, Public Information Officer; and Annette Beaumeister, City of Chubbuck Council
member; joined the meeting to discuss the use of social media on the City’s Website. Ideas of how to
enhance outreach efforts via social media were reviewed.
Ms. Beaumeister was excused at 2:05 p.m.
In response to questions from Council, Mr. McDougall gave an update on the City’s flag and
merchandise available to promote the flag.
Mr. McDougall was excused at 2:15 p.m.
Melanie Gygli, Planning and Development Services Director; Matthew Lewis and Carl Anderson, Senior
Planners; joined the meeting at 2:28 p.m.
Ms. Gygli provided general information regarding zoning of certain areas in Pocatello. After brief
discussion, it was suggested that staff continue to research zoning needs within the city.
Planning staff was excused at 2:44 p.m.
Mr. Johnston gave an update regarding a building that could be used to manage the City’s fleet.
Ms. Adamson gave an update on Parks and Recreation Advisory Board activities. She explained Peter
Pruett, Zoo Idaho Superintendent, is working toward a more natural look for the zoo.
City Council members shared they prefer a more manicured look for the zoo. A natural look within the
animal display area is acceptable. However, Council would like walking paths and other areas of the zoo
to be landscaped with barks, etc.
Ms. Adamson gave an update on the African Sister City Committee and noted the Committee is still
having a problem getting a quorum for meetings. The last meeting had only one attendee. Ms.
Adamson noted that Neighborworks Pocatello is working on the lead based grant to update homes in
Pocatello.
Mr. Bray noted the Community Development Block Grant Committee is busy with their annual
processing of applications.
Mr. Moore gave an update on Golf Advisory Board activities and noted the Child Care Advisory Board
members are very supportive of each other and local child care providers.

Mr. Moore noted the Senior Citizen Center is functioning well and he cautioned the Council to move
forward slowly to keep costs down when considering upgrades to the facility.
Mr. Orr gave an update on the Greyhound Bus station located in Old Town Pocatello. Possible uses for
the building were shared. General information regarding the Old Town area was discussed.
Mayor Blad and Mr. Johnston were excused at 3:20 p.m.
Mr. Bray had questions regarding the parking lot near Center Street Underpass and if the parking lot
would be included in the Center Street Underpass project.
Mr. Orr gave an update on the Airport Commission. He reported passenger boardings at the airport
have increased. He noted that the Animal Shelter Advisory Board and Historic Preservation
Commission have new members.
Ms. Adamson adjourned the working lunch at 3:45 p.m.
