1. Certificate of Appropriateness (MAJCOA 16354-2021) (Continued from February
2, 2022)
Project Address: 395 South Thomas Street
Project Applicant: John Pena
Project Planner: Geoffrey Starns, Historic Preservation Supervisor
Council District: CC District No. 2
A Major Certificate of Appropriateness (MAJCOA 16354-2021) to add a fourth story,
add an exterior fire escape, add an addition to the first floor, and various on -site
improvements, in order to rehabilitate an existing historic landmark (Masonic Temple) to
a mixed-use structure located at 395 S. Thomas Street. Pursuant to the provisions of the
California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA Public Resources Code, Section 21084 et.
seq.), this project could qualify for a Categorical Exemption in compliance with Article 19,
Section 15331.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends that the Historic Preservation Commission approve the Certificate of
Appropriateness, subject to conditions, and adopt Resolution No 2022-005.
