BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY Regular Meeting May 10, 2022 10:30 AM Pledge of Allegiance. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Lynch at 10:30 A.M. Members Present: Mayor Lynch, Joetta Collins, Jamie Lewis, Scott Williams, and Stephanie Young-Johnson. Also, present was Clerk-Treasurer Nina Rivas and Attorney Dan Whitten. MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING: Member Williams made a motion to approve the April 26, 2022 minutes; Member Lewis seconded the motion. Mayor Lynch requested input from the Board. Motion passed. 5 yes – 0 nays UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None. NEW BUSINESS: Resolution 22-02, Establishing INDOT Signing Authority Member Williams made a motion to adopt Resolution 22-02; Member Collins seconded the motion. Mayor Lynch requested input from the Board. Motion passed. 5 yes – 0 nays Street Department Quotes (ARP Funds) Snow Plow – Lindco $245,388.00 Member Williams made a motion to approve the quote; Member Lewis seconded the motion. Mayor Lynch requested input from the Board. Motion passed. 5 yes – 0 nays Mini Loader – Alta Equipment $62,446.00, McGrin (?) $65,795.00, City Tractor $65,840.00 Member Williams made a motion to approve the quote from Alta Equipment; Member Collins seconded the motion. Motion passed. 5 yes – 0 nays Paint Striper – Sherwin Williams (specialty equipment) $33,650.00 Member Collins made a motion to approve the quote; Member Young Johnson seconded the motion. Motion passed. 5 yes – 0 nays Special Event Requests O’Reilly’s Auto Parts – Car Show Member Williams made a motion to approve the Special Event Request, contingent upon legal review; Member Collins seconded the motion. Mayor Lynch requested input from the Board. Motion passed. 5 yes – 0 nays Portage Junior Miss – 50th Anniversary Parade Officer Monks explained there would be overtime cost associated with the event. Member Lewis offered to make a donation to PJM in the amount of the overtime. Member Lewis made a motion to approve the Special Event Request; Member Williams seconded the motion. Motion passed. 5 yes – 0 nays Tag Day Request Portage Robotics, May 21, 2022 9am-3pm Member Williams made a motion to approve the Tag Day Request; Member Collins seconded the motion. Motion passed. 5 yes – 0 nays Permission to Solicit Bids for a Fire Truck Member Williams made a motion to approve the request to solicit bids; Member Young-Johnson seconded the motion. Mayor Lynch requested input from the Board. Clerk-Treasurer Rivas explained that is who the city gets natural gas through. Member Lewis asked about the vendor Joyce Russell. Mayor Lynch explained she provides public relation/marketing services. Member Lewis made a motion to approve the standard claims in the amount of $272,439.25; Member Collins seconded the motion. Mayor Lynch requested input from the Board. Motion passed. 5 yes – 0 nays MAJOR ILLNESS: Member Williams made a motion to approve five (5) MI Claims; Member Collins seconded the motion.
