City of Portage Common Council Regular Meeting February 2, 2021 Invocation. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Lynch at 6:34PM. Councilperson Williams lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Members Present: Councilpersons Scott Williams, Ferdinand Alvarez, Debbie Podgorski, Gina Giese-Hurst, Brian Gulley, Collin Czilli, Mayor Sue Lynch. Also present was Clerk-Treasurer Nina Rivas and Attorney Dan Whitten. Minutes: Councilperson Czilli made a motion to approve the January 5, 2021 minutes; Councilperson Podgorski seconded the motion. Mayor Lynch requested input from the Council. Mayor Lynch requested a roll call vote. Motion passed. -yes 0-nays Communication, Correspondence and Announcements from the Mayor: A Proclamation was read by Councilperson Alvarez for Porter County Technical Career Center. Mayor Lynch congratulated the Portage High School Wrestling Team for winning sectionals. Clerk-Treasurer’s Report: Clerk-Treasurer Rivas reported that she would provide the Council with a copy of the Annual Finance Report at the next Council Meeting. Reports of City Officials: Chief Candiano, Chief Wilkening and Superintendent Reeder provided staff reports to the Council. Reports from Standing Committees: Councilperson Williams reported that the Ordinance Committee will be meeting the first Tuesday of each month prior to the regular council meeting. Councilperson reported she will have more to report after the submission of the AFR. Unfinished Business: None. New Business: None. Introduction of Ordinances: None. Reception of Remonstrances, Petitions & Memorials or Public Input: Michael Cooper addressed the Council. Any Matters not Already Considered by the Council: Recognition was given to the Street Department regarding the multiple snow events. Residents were reminded of the snow fall ordinance that prohibits vehicles being parked in the roadway when there is 2” or more of snowfall. Councilperson Williams requested that the Traffic Commission look into possible signage making residents more aware of the ordinance. Councilperson Alvarez inquired on the incident at Sk8 World. Chief Candiano stated the PD used to provide security by off-duty officers until last fall. Councilperson Giese-Hurst read a letter from a Girl Scout thanking the Park Department for allowing her to volunteer at the park and gain service hours. Adjournment: There being no further business to come before the Council, Mayor Lynch entertained a motion to adjourn. Councilperson Czilli made a motion to adjourn; Councilperson Podgorski seconded the motion. Mayor Lynch requested a roll call vote. Motion passed.
