Health and Safety Committee

CITY OF PRESCOTT, WISCONSIN SEPTEMBER 5, 2018 HEALTH & SAFETY COMMITTEE MINUTES Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a meeting of the Health & Safety committee was held, Wednesday, September 5, 2018, Municipal Building, 800 Borner Street, Prescott, WI 54021. Call to Order: Chairman Gergen called the meeting to order at 5:30 pm. Members present included Bailey Ruona and Maureen Otwell. Office Chief Doug Ducklow, Sergeant Eric Michaels, Finance Director Vanessa Norby and City Administrator Jayne Brand represented staff. Chief Ducklow updated the committee that they currently have 49 policies rolled out including the critical 10 policies. The body camera policy will be rolled out before Prescott Daze. The department has been busy. They are working on current and past cases. Sergeant Eric Michaels presented the capital equipment request for the Police Department. The patrol squads need to have full video and camera replacement. They currently have nothing in the squad vehicles. The estimated cost is $39,705.00. There was also discussion on the replacement of computers. Sergeant Michaels did not have the total cost for the computers but thought they were around $25,000. It was discussed if half of the costs could come out of the 2018 and the other half out of 2019. Staffing was discussed. The current staffing is Chief, two Sergeants, 6 fulltime Officers and 2 part-time Officers. There is a need for additional part-time Officers. The Police Department has seen an increase in the number of case each year. The department has made a number of calls to the school district so there is a proposal to hire a school liaison officer with the hope of the school district picking up a portion of the cost. There was also discussion on having a fulltime investigator. Financial numbers were provided for both a school liaison and fulltime investigator. All of these items will be discussed as the budgets for all departments are put together. Ruona/Otwell motion to adjourn passed without a negative voice vote. Respectfully Submitted, Jayne M.
