Neighborhood District Meeting Report Neighborhood District 4 __ Meeting Date _August 21, 2024______ __ File # ____________________ Meeting conducted by (name and title): Beth Hedengren, vice-chair Number in attendance: 20 people in person in and 4 people were on Zoom Total: an estimated 24 people were in attendance. District 4 Board Members in attendance: Eric Chase, Mindy Jeppesen, Beth Hedengren, Aaron Skabelund. Leah and Mel excused. Brent not in attendance. Agenda Items: For these first three presentations, please see the slides: 638598477056006072 (provo.org). There were some questions and comments regarding the informative presentations, but none of them expressed an opinion about the content. “Understanding Recycling” presentation from Public Works Sustainability overview Update from the school board Introduction of possible neighborhood district projects by Beth • Lions Park north parking lot repaving delayed; solar light batteries for Lions Park will be funded for the last fiscal year; the Parkway Village property owner has donated land so that a proper, safe pathway can be built between lower and upper Carterville, now the city needs to find the funds to build it; monument to indigenous peoples in Exchange Park, chess tables in North Park. o Several attendees expressed support for the latter two ideas. The plaques that mention indigenous peoples are few and far between and pale in comparison the historical memory shown later Euro-American settlers. A chess table would serve a variety of purposes: card table, checker table, lunch table. Many cities have such tables in public spaces. People, after covid, are craving interaction. North Park makes the most sense because people could check out chess pieces at the Rec Center. A busy park would be the best place for a table. Applicant name or project description: none Public Comment: n/a Was applicant or their designee in attendance at this meeting? n/a Was a city representative in attendance at this meeting? n/a Have other neighborhood meetings been held on this project?
