Neighborhood District Meeting Report Neighborhood District 4 __ Meeting Date _November 6, 2024______ __ File # ____________________ Meeting conducted by (name and title): Beth Hedengren, acting chair Number in attendance: Total: District 4 Board Members in attendance: Eric Chase, Mindy Jeppesen, Beth Hedengren, Aaron Skabelund, Sarah Asay, Leah Duncan, Mel Smith. Brent not in attendance. City Council: Rachel Whipple, Craig Christensen (Travis Hoban out of town). State Legislator: Lisa Shepherd. Police: Officer Hutchinson, Officer LeFevre. Total: 39 (32 in person, 7 on Zoom). Meeting video: Neighborhood District 4 Meeting 11/06/2024 Agenda Items: Police Report: Officer Hutchinson, our neighborhood officer, works on long-term issues related rather than one-time incidents; also report about graffiti. Vandalism report about incident at the “brown church” in Grandview South provided by Mindy 1700 North/State Street safety intersection: fatal crash recently and our meeting with UDOT on Monday. UDOT is conducting two studies that should be completed by December. Their engineers and Vern Keesler came up with a number of “low-hanging” steps that could be implemented to make the intersection safer. Several residents expressed concerns about the rest of the State Street stretch north of Cougar, especially access into the Rancho Market/Quick Quack property. We as a board need to follow up on this since this is a city issue, not a UDOT one. Community Gardens: report from Hillary Whitaker about 800 N garden. Looking forward to collaborating with her as a district. Report on leadership’s activities by Beth: community garden service project, Connected Communities Summit, Lions Park hillside clean-up will be June 2025, grant ideas (community garden, Carterville Path, Indigenous People of Utah monument, chess table in park Suggestion to give left-over money to Community Action for gardens, renovation of the 900 N pedestrian bridge. Public Health students briefly presented about grant to encourage social connectedness and activity among seniors. Lots of interest in taking advantage of this. Perhaps on the GV Hill might be best given the senior community housing there. Applicant name or project description: Rachel mentioned a possible downtown development on Bill Harris Music property that may impact the height limits of one lot in North Park, the old BYU women’s gym. Eric will look over as the North Park neighborhood representative. Public Comment: Concerns about the potential height of buildings in their community (as tall as Utah Valley Hospital) and concerns that the “for sale” housing units would just be rented out since they’re so small (no one would live in them for long, creating transitory neighborhoods and defeating the purpose of the “for sale” units).
