The “New River ” City 10 Robertson St. June 24, 2013 Radford, Virginia Meeting Number 25 of Radford City Council, F.Y. 2012-2013 The special closed meeting of the Radford City Council was convened at 5:00 p.m. in the City Manager’s Conference Room, 10 Robertson Street, Radford, VA. The Mayor of the City, Mr. Bruce Brown, was present and presiding. Other members of City Council present were Mr. Tim Cox, Mr. Keith Marshall, Dr. Richard Harshberger, and Mr. Robert L. Nicholson III. Others present were as follows: Mr. David Ridpath, City Manager/City Clerk CLOSED MEETING: Mr. Marshall made a motion, seconded by Mr. Nicholson, to convene into a closed meeting for the purpose of discussion of the following subjects as provided in Section 2.2-3711 A, paragraph 1 of the Code of VA 1950 as amended which reads as follows: Discussion, consideration or interviews of prospective candidates for employment; assignment, appointment, promotion, performance, demotion, salaries, disciplining or resignation of specific public officers, appointees or employees of any public body; a. The regular meeting of the Radford City Council was convened at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers, 10 Robertson Street, Radford, VA. The Mayor of the City, Dr. Bruce Brown, was present and presiding. Y. 2014 City Budget is based on revenues from taxes, rates and fees. The City Code provides the basis for determination of fees. All base fees/rates are proposed to remain level with the exception of fees charged by the Planning Department for rezoning, special use permits and variances. These fees are increasing to reflect actual cost for legal review, certified mail and advertising. The grant will be used to purchase twelve licenses and training for the mobile data units used in police cars. Mr. Ridpath suggested that we look at what other communities are doing and will bring a recommendation to Council at their next meeting. SUBJECT: Consider approving Radford Chamber of Commerce Memorandum of Understanding SUMMARY: The Radford Chamber of Commerce has provided a proposed contract for services to the City of Radford for F.Y. 2014. Services include assistance in economic development, involvement in local government activities, fostering of communications, promote Radford businesses and tourism, increased marketing opportunities, development of a long-term financial plan, and promotion of regional activities. Infrequently, Radford City Council holds an early meeting prior to the regularly scheduled meeting time in which case the time and subject of the meeting will be announced in the agenda for the meeting. VOTE: AYES: Mr. Cox, Dr. Harshberger, Mr. Marshall, Mr. Nicholson, Mayor Brown CITY MANAGER’S COMMENTS: Mr. Ridpath reminded Council of the Fourth of July schedule. He shared they are very proud of paving program and will be getting brick cross walks and striping will be finished end of week. Also, the DG’s project will be back underway in a couple of days, the goal is to have concrete work done in two weeks. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS: Mayor Brown shared that VDOT will be holding a public hearing tomorrow, here in the City Council Chambers for the I-81 bridge replacement project from 5-9. He also commented that the employee picnic was well done and means a lot to those who work for the City. He is hoping that the rain will hold off for the Fourth of July celebrations. We have a great weekend filled with many free events.
