Minutes of the Radford City Electoral Board; February 6, 2018 Chairman Jett Called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. Roll call: Jett; Present Mannon: present Turk: Present All members present, a quorum was established. The minutes of the November 7th Canvass meeting were read and approved The February meeting of the Electoral Board, as required by the Code of Virginia, is required for the appointment of Officers of Election for the upcoming Election Year 2018-2019. Mrs. Turk presented a list received from the Radford Democrat committee of 5 additional names for inclusion in the list of officers of election. Mrs. Turk moved for acceptance, Mr. Jett 2nd, Mr. Mannon votes Yes. Motion approved to add the democratic nominees to the Officer of Election Listing. The republican party was notified and did not submit additional names. The Electoral Board directed the General Registrar to notify all new officers of their appointments. The regular officers with appointments of 3 years are only 1 year into their term, notification is not necessary. The General Registrar announced that the re-appointment order for Mrs. Turk had been received from the Clerk of Circuit Court. Mrs. Turk’s appointment begins march 1, 2018 and concludes Feb.28, 2021. The motion was made by Mrs. Turk to take up reorganization of the board at this meeting, foregoing the need to meet in March. 2nd was made by Mr. Jett, Mr. Mannon votes Yes. Chainman Jett moved the slate of nominees for the 2018-2019 beginning March 1st, election year as follows: Chairman, Daniel Jett (R), Vice Chairman, Phyllis Turk (D), Secretary, Joseph Mannon 2nd Made by Mrs. Turk, Mr. Mannon votes yes. The General Registrar, discussed the potential of splitting the East Precinct into two precincts prior to the pre-redistricting moratorium. General Discussion of the potential placement of a new polling place, and street boundaries. General registrar was directed to discuss with City Administration, in order to determine a means of division of populations within the current East Precinct, and the effect that Radford University on campus and off-campus populations have had on the current voter rolls. The General Registrar will determine potential polling places, potential district divisions and costs associated with an additional precinct, to report back prior to the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2018. There being no further business, Motion for adjournment was made by Mr. Jett, 2nd by Mrs. Turk, Mr. Mannon votes yes. The Board adjourned at 10:30 a.m.
